Great views of lake

Fine if you want to see lake Arenal but we didn’t see much wildlife. Snacks on boat were good. Views of the volcano were good. Tour guide friendly and knowledgeable

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the views of Lake Arenal and the volcano, as well as the snacks on board and the friendliness of your guide. Wildlife sightings can vary from day to day, but our team always does their best to provide an informative and enjoyable experience. We truly appreciate you choosing Jacamar Naturalist Tours and value your comments.

The guide was...

The guide was knowledgeable and informative. The boat was a little uneventful and it was raining heavily but we made the best of it. We would have liked to hike a bit more but it was perfect for our kids (ages 5 and 7). The park is pristine rain forest. The tour company was professional and the van was comfortable. Highly recommended!

Scam

Waste of money do not book this. You go on a 5 min walk to the boat, you’re on the boat for 30 mins, then you’re done. Nothing else. I paid for a private tour over $300 and it was horrible.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. After carefully reviewing your reservation and speaking directly with the guide who assisted you (Cindy), we can confirm that the activity provided was Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park), which is exactly what was booked and delivered according to the tour description. This experience includes approximately one hour exploring the peninsula trail inside the national park and one hour navigating Lake Arenal by boat. It appears there was a misunderstanding at the time of booking, as the experience you described aligns more closely with a different tour we offer called Sunset View on Boat at Arenal Lake (Wine & Cheese), which includes additional elements and a different format. Unfortunately, this was not the tour reserved for your visit. We understand how frustrating it can be when expectations don’t align with the experience, and we always encourage guests to contact us before or during the tour so we can clarify any details or assist whenever possible.

Lovedd!

Our tour guide Cindy and her team were so sweet and accommodating. Got to see a lot of wildlife. Provided pineapples during our boat ride to Lake Arenal which was delicious. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a shorter excursion

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We’re delighted to know that Cindy and the team made your outing enjoyable and welcoming. They truly love creating memorable moments for our guests. It’s wonderful to hear that the outing offered a nice balance of wildlife, scenery, and comfort. We’re glad the experience fit exactly what you were looking for. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to have the chance to host you again on your next visit to the Arenal area.

Amazing walk and boat...

Amazing walk and boat ride. The weather is so unpredictable and it rained the entire tour but David the guide made the best of it.

Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.

How much does Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park) cost?

+

Prices start at $84 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park) take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.

Is Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park) worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park)?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park) suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 4. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park)?

+

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Lake Arenal by Boat & Peninsula Trail (National Park) start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?

+

On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Canyoning Adventure Rappelling Waterfalls in Arenal Volcano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Fortuna?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
