Good experience with room for improvements

We had an overall good experience -- we did see dolphins which was a magical experience. Benagil Cave was closed due to the rough sea conditions so we were taken to see other caves. A little bit bummed about that, but understand that this is not within the tour's control. However, there were other drawbacks. First, our booking was rescheduled from 9AM to 12PM which we were not aware of. When we arrived at 9AM, we were informed that a message was sent out a few days before. I must admit we did receive this message, however it was not obvious in the message that the time changed. It simply looked like a confirmation; the only way you would notice the change was by looking carefully at the time and realizing that was a different time than originally booked. Honestly with all the stress from travel, it is easily missed since I booked this weeks/months ago. Some of that is on us, however I would suggest clearly writing "ATTENTION: BOOKING UPDATED/TIME CHANGE" or some very obvious disclaimer to pay attention to a change in our booking. Second, the sea/waves were very rocky that day. Of course the sea conditions are not within the tour's control, however I wish we were told when we were arrived that the sea was rough. Everything ended up being fine, but I definitely felt scared like on a roller coaster ride. For folks who might be more fearful or have more physical limitations, it would have been good to have this information to reconsider.

Caves 👍🏻👍🏻 dolphin spotting, a horrible, cold and wet experience!

Whilst weather will naturally have an impact on sea swells, if you've had a good experience chasing or observing dolphins, I would suggest be very cautious before deciding to take this tour. The day we went it was obvious after 20 minutes that it was not only way too rough but the conditions meant dolphin spotting was highly unlikely. Despite this the crew member driving the zodiac kept us out there for 40 minutes before finally conceding defeat but we all had endure a cold wet hammering of spray for our money. If the white caps and swell are obvious but you still think you'd like to experience a form of water torture, then it's your choice to make, if on the other hand your main reason is to see the caves from the water then spend less and enjoy a much better experience, this at least went some way to redeeming our enjoyment.

Response from the operator: Dear Terence, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, and we are truly sorry that the dolphin part of your trip turned out cold, wet and uncomfortable. That is never how we want our guests to feel. The Atlantic here can change very quickly: conditions that look fine at departure can turn rough within minutes, and on those days the ocean is always in charge. We completely understand how disappointing that is when you have been looking forward to seeing dolphins. Your comments have been shared with our whole crew, and we are using them to improve how quickly we adapt the route when the sea picks up, so that our guests' comfort always comes first. We are really glad the caves helped make up for part of the day. The Algarve coastline is something special, and we are happy you got to see it from the water. We hope we'll have the chance to welcome you back one day on a calm sea, when the ocean shows its very best side. Warm regards, The Seafaris Team

The trip was canceled, they returned my money

They canceled the trip due to the forecast of strong winds, offering me to do it another day or refund my money. I opted for the refund and they returned my money in less than two weeks.

Response from the operator: Muchas gracias por su comprensión. Lamentamos no haber podido realizar la excursión debido a las condiciones meteorológicas, pero la seguridad de nuestros clientes es siempre nuestra prioridad. Esperamos poder recibirle en otra ocasión.

    This was the best tour,...

This was the best tour, boat had engine more friendly to dolphins. Kids loved the kind of saddle seats the boat had.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted that you enjoyed the tour and appreciated our more dolphin-friendly engine. It’s wonderful to hear that the kids loved the saddle-style seats too! We hope to welcome your family aboard again for another adventure.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lagos.

How much does Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist cost?

    +

Prices start at $57 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lagos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lagos is not rushed.

Is Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lagos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist suitable for kids and families?

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist?

    +

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lagos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lagos and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Lagos: Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching Combo, Marine Biologist start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lagos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lagos?

    +

On Outty we rank every Lagos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small-Group Kayak Tour: Magic of Ponta da Piedade, Lagos, From Lagos: Kayak Tour of Ponta da Piedade Caves by Boat, Boat trip to the grottos at Ponta da Piedade, Lagos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lagos?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lagos?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
