    Great excursion!

I absolutely loved this excursion! My boyfriend and I had a great time! The views were amazing and the staff was great! The price wasn't too bad at all and there was a good amount of us riding the atvs but that made it even more fun! We even stopped at some point to put mud masks on our faces!

Response from the operator: Thank you for joining us! We're so happy you and your boyfriend had such a great time. We hope to see you both again for another adventure in La Fortuna!

    Not what we expected

Our experience was unfortunately disappointing and did not meet our expectations, especially for the price. From the beginning, our tour guide seemed more focused on getting through the tour than on providing an enjoyable or informative experience. He shared very little about the history of the area, the destinations we were visiting, or what we could expect along the way. The condition of the helmets was also a major concern. When we arrived and were getting prepared, we were given helmets that had a very strong, unpleasant odor. The smell was so bad that my hair continued to smell for the rest of the day until I was able to shower. When we asked if we could have a different helmet, we were told that was all they had, and the guide simply walked away. Based on our personal experience, it did not give us confidence that the helmets were being properly cleaned or sanitized between guests. We also booked this tour expecting a true backroads ATV adventure. Unfortunately, that was not what we experienced. It felt much more like an ATV obstacle course with some mud rather than an actual backroad/jungle adventure. Approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes of the two-hour tour was spent riding on paved and gravel roads. We did stop at a public river/creek crossing for a break, but the experience overall did not feel particularly immersive or adventurous. The photos online also gave us the impression that we would be riding much closer to the volcano and would have opportunities for the kind of scenic ATV photos shown in the advertising. In reality, we were much farther away and had to stop in a separate area to take photos with the ATVs and volcano in the background. If you're specifically looking for a true backroads/jungle ATV experience, this may not be the tour for you. If you're simply looking for an opportunity to drive an ATV, occasionally go through some mud, and spend some time on paved and gravel roads, you may have a different experience. For us, however, the experience did not justify the price. We went in expecting an exciting, immersive backroads adventure and unfortunately left feeling disappointed. Based on our personal experience, this was a below-average ATV tour and not what we expected from the description and photos.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the experience did not match what you were expecting. Our tour includes a combination of rainforest trails, muddy sections, gravel and paved roads, as well as different stops along the route. Because we operate in a mountainous area, the tour is guided at a controlled pace and is designed to be a safe experience while enjoying the nature, scenery and different terrains. It is not a high-speed or rally-style ATV tour. We also take the condition and cleanliness of our helmets seriously, and we’re sorry that you were uncomfortable with yours. We will share this feedback with our team to make sure this is checked carefully. Regarding the volcano views, they depend on the route and visibility on the day, and the photos shown are meant to represent the experience rather than guarantee a specific viewpoint. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to continue improving the experience for our guests. Best regards, Original Arenal ATV

La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Alajuela.

How much does La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views cost?

    +

Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Alajuela usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Alajuela is not rushed.

Is La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 366 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Alajuela, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views?

    +

Around 128 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Alajuela can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Alajuela and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does La Fortuna: ATV Adventure Through Rainforest & Volcano Views start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Alajuela within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Alajuela?

    +

On Outty we rank every Alajuela experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Arenal Volcano Full-Day Combo Tour with Lunch and Dinner, Arenal Volcano Experience Full-Day Tour from San Jose, Manuel Antonio National Park Sightseeing and Wildlife Day Tour from San Jose. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Alajuela?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Alajuela?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
