A fun day after an unexpected change in plans

Nicolás, our guide, needed ton change the plan at last minute because the park was shut at the last minute for an emergency incident. But the hiking alternative he found was worthing it. And his ability to talk about flora and his passion for sharing it made the day interesting and fun. Many thanks Nicolás!

Response from the operator: Many thanks to you, Josie. I'm personally very happy to be able to offer a new alternative due to the last-minute issue that prevented us from ascending La Campana mountain. Instead, we visited the coastal towns of Cachagua and Zapallar. In Zapallar, we hiked through El Boldo Park and were amazed by its rich relict forest and the breathtaking views of the coast and vast ocean. Sending you warm regards.

A challenging climb that rewards you with an idyllic view

The day started with a 7.30AM pickup by Nicholas one of the owners of Coigue Expeditions. We drove for an hour and a half to La Campana National Park. Upon arrival we checked in with the park rangers who informed us the park opens from 9:00AM to 17:30AM. The climb was 7 km long, and the altitude difference between the Granizo entrance and the La Campana summit was approximately 1,400 meters. The two last kilometers, and particularly the last one are pretty rocky and steep, and you'll need hiking shoes and light feet. The hike up should take approximately 4 hours but we did it in 3. Throught the climb, Nicolas was encouraging throughout, reminding me the climb was at my pace. The summit offers an idillyc scenery at 1880 meters! You can see both the snowy peaks of the Andes and the valley below. The hike down was two and a half hours and it requires a degree of precision. Doing the climb with a guide was the best choice. While the path is clearly marked it was a great opportunity to learn about the history, wildlife and history of the place. Highly recommnded as a challenging and truly memorable experience.

Response from the operator: Hello Alain. Many thanks for taking your time and enthusiasm to provide such a great abstract of your experience at La Campana. Personally, it was a tremendous pleasure to hike with you and challenge together the summit. I was very happy to see you enjoying so much during the route, and now, so grateful for your words. Wish you all the best and send you a big hug!

What should I bring or wear?
