10/10 experience
My husband and I did this sushi tour and tea ceremony and it was the highlight of our trip. Akko was our tour guide and she delivered over and above. Learning about Japanese culture through the lens of Akko and the sushi chef was an additional plus to learning how to make sushi. Highly recommend!

Incredible experience learning and eating/drinking
My husband and I had an incredible experience with Yuka! She and the amazing chefs who taught/served us did such a wonderful job explaining everything, teaching us about the history of sushi making and other cultural things, and answering all of our questions. The sushi, sweets, sake, and matcha tea were all so delicious. We would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone. Thank you again!

11/10
Our sushi class with Ayuri was truly one of the highlights of our entire trip! From the moment we walked in, she made us feel like family — so warm, genuine, and full of energy. We were laughing nonstop and felt completely at home throughout the experience. The chef and sake master were incredible as well, guiding us step-by-step on how to make our own sushi while sharing fascinating insights about Japanese culture and traditions. It was interactive, and fun— we left with full hearts and full stomachs! This class is more than just a cooking lesson; it’s a beautiful glimpse into local life and community. You can really feel the passion and authenticity that Ayuri and her team put into every detail. We can’t recommend it highly enough — an absolute must for anyone visiting the area! And the sushi chef SHREDS! 🌊🏄♂️
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful and heartfelt review! We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that your sushi class with Ayuri was one of the highlights of your trip. She truly loves making every guest feel like family, and we’re so glad her warmth and energy made you feel right at home. The chef and the sake master will be delighted to hear your kind words too. It means a lot to us that you experienced the class as more than just a lesson, but a true glimpse into local life. Thank you again for your glowing recommendation. We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable experience someday!

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.
How much does Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef cost?
+
Prices start at $163 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.
Is Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kyoto Sushi Making Experience with a Professional Sushi Chef start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kyoto?
+
On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kyoto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kyoto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
