Amazing making sushi experience!

We had a truly amazing experience at Samurai Restaurant Omakase Kyoto, and honestly, there is nothing negative to say. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness by the chef and the owner, making us feel instantly comfortable. Wearing a traditional happi to begin the experience was a wonderful touch that immediately set the mood. The chef shared the history of sushi, its evolution, and the philosophy behind it, which made the experience even more meaningful. Making sushi ourselves was both fun and eye-opening. It made us realize how much skill and precision this art requires. Using fresh seasonal fish and learning directly from such a passionate chef made the experience unforgettable. The taste of handmade sushi was incredible, truly on another level compared to anything store-bought. The atmosphere was perfect: calm, intimate, with samurai décor and soft jazz in the background. The staff’s professionalism, patience, and genuine kindness made this moment special from beginning to end. This is a must-do experience in Kyoto for anyone who loves Japanese culture and food.

Definitely a must try sushi experience

Keigo-san (the sushi master) and Kiyo-san were very welcoming. Keigo-san has deep knowledge about sushi, and he taught us how sushi evolved into the style we know today. We had a great time making sushi: aji, maguro, ebi, (scallops), as well as California maki, and all the ingredients were incredibly fresh. Kiyo-san was also very supportive and attentive; she even helped us roll up our sleeves and made sure we were comfortable throughout the experience. Keigo-san’s tips were very clear and precise, and I think I can apply what I learned to make sushi at home. I would definitely join again and highly recommend this experience. Plus, there’s even a samurai costume you can wear!

Response from the operator: What a fantastic review! Thank you so much for choosing our sushi activity and for your kind words. I am thrilled that my precise tips on aji, maguro, and ebi scallop, and the history of sushi were helpful, and that the ingredients were incredibly fresh. It warms our hearts to know that Kiyo-san's support made you feel comfortable throughout the process. Knowing that you can apply what you learned at home is the best compliment I could receive. Please do share your homemade sushi pictures with us! We hope you cherish the memory (and the samurai photo!). I truly appreciate your high recommendation.

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
