    The most unique experience

This was one of the most unique, if the most unique experience of my life. First of all we were welcomed with a lovely cup of tea and a delicious desert. Then the guide explained us the whole program so we knew what was coming all the time. We had a beautiful session with one of the monks in the garden where he taught us how to make shapes with the small stones. It was meditative and we were not just an audience, but part of the whole experience. The highlight was of course the beautiful Maiko. Not only did she perform a mesmerising dance for us, but we had the chance to sit down and ask her questions. She answered everything very honestly and we had a glimpse of her life and world. I would recommend to try this experience at least once in their lives. For me it was unforgettable.

A great exclusive experience in the heart of Kyoto

I joined this experience at Ikka-in with my colleagues and it was one of the most memorable things I did in Kyoto. The temple is reserved for the group, so there are no crowds and no queues, just a calm, intimate atmosphere. We started in the karesansui, the traditional Zen sand garden. Instead of only looking at it, we were given a wooden rake and created our own patterns in the gravel, which was surprisingly meditative. Then a maiko arrived and performed a traditional dance just a few steps from us, with no stage between us and her. Seeing the movement and detail up close was something I will not forget. Afterwards we sat down together over green tea and a Japanese sweet, and we could ask her some questions and take pictures together. It made it feel like a genuine cultural exchange and not just a show.! The English-speaking guide gave helpful background on the temple and on maiko culture, she also translated for us and the 90 minutes were well paced and easy to follow. The temple is a short walk from Tofukuji Station, just one stop from Kyoto Station, so it is easy to reach. If you want to feel a living Japanese tradition and not just visit a historic site, I would highly recommend it!

    Great experience!

Great experience! After the tour, I gained a whole new perspective on Japanese gardens. And the dance performance was beautiful to watch and the question and answer time that followed with the Maiko was very interesting. I would definitely recommend this tour !

    Maiko Experience

I was moved to see Maiko's dance in front of me for the first time. And the experience of dry mountain water was also valuable and enjoyable. I was able to learn history in a wonderful place called Ikka-in, and it was a very satisfying experience. Thank you very much.

An Amazing Traditional Experience of Kyoto

I really enjoyed this experience! The temple and Zen garden were beautiful and peaceful, and it was nice to learn about the area's history and culture. The maiko performance was definitely the highlight for me. It was amazing to see a maiko perform this close, and it was really interesting to see the traditional dance and kimono and to ask questions about her life. I also liked that we had plenty of time to enjoy everything and take photos. Overall, I had a really good time and would definitely recommend it, especially if you're visiting Kyoto and want to experience something unique!

How much does Kyoto Temple Geisha or Maiko Dance, Zen Garden & Tea Experience cost?

    +

Prices start at ¥23,000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Kyoto Temple Geisha or Maiko Dance, Zen Garden & Tea Experience take?

Is Kyoto Temple Geisha or Maiko Dance, Zen Garden & Tea Experience worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 130 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

    +

Around 46 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
