A great day!
This was a great day! The train is a great way to see so much of Japan’s beauty. They canceled the boat on our day bc of high winds which gave us much more free time in arashiyama. I’d do it again to experience the boat! We did so much- both bamboo forests, rickshaw, lunch, shopping, and money park (the climb up is real yet the views and monkeys are worth it!!)
Response from the operator: Thank you for joining our tour. We are sorry that the river ride got canceled because of the weather, but we are really glad you enjoyed it. If you get the chance, please come visit Kyoto again!

Best day out
A big day out. Tour guide was so informative and tried so hard to go out of her way to make sure everyone in the group was safe and happy. A short 20 minute bus ride to hop on an old fashioned diesel train with no windows that took us through to rural Kyoto, mountains and jungle areas, ending up at the top of a river where we hoped an a boat for a 2 hour trip down the river which had some great rapids. We then had 2 hours free time so we hired a Rickshaw, WOW , we went into the bamboo forest and all around a small town before we walked the streets and found a little restaurant for great food, hoped back on the bus and back to Kyoto.
Response from the operator: Thank you for joining our tour this time. We're really happy that you enjoyed it. If you get a chance, please come visit Kyoto again.

Boats, trains and great fun
Great experience, the train ride was really good (around 20 minutes journey) and the river boat was fantastic (about 2 hours) - although we did get rather wet (hot day so no issues!). The boatmen were very entertaining and we saw some great scenery. A really well organised trip, plenty of free time for exploring and we were well looked after, would definitely recommend.
Response from the operator: Thank you for joining our tour. We're really happy to hear that you enjoyed it. We'll also share your comments with the tour company. If you get the chance, please come to Kyoto again. Have a great trip!

Do it! Just know these things
Worth doing! Just know... this appears MAINLY for Japanese tourists. Our main issue was finding the correct location for checking in at the Kyoto train station. Went to main bus ticket place at that was wrong and the people were not interested in being helpful. Once we got to the RIGHT bus terminal the woman was SO SWEET and new I was panicked and helped us to the right bus. The cute little romantic train was sweet - a nice surprise (thank goodness for the beautiful day) - the men on the platform were full of fun and smiles, but the photographers kind of ruined the first part of the experience. The boat ride was beautiful and the guides funny (but we felt bad at how hard they were working constantly - def used to American rafts with oars). We did NOT understand however that we were going to be on our own for over 2 hours at a town we knew nothing about. We made the best of it (and it was beautiful of course) - but that was part of the trip we weren't anticipating. Also, the equipment my son was given to listen to the English recording on the bus didn't work. Mine did, so we shared best we could. The woman holding the flag to keep us in a group was very smiley and we felt looked after.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for participating in our tour this time. We are sorry and regret that you were not able to fully enjoy the two-hour free walk in Arashiyama included in the itinerary. Regarding the equipment malfunction, we will check with the operating company and request improvements to prevent similar incidents from happening. Thank you for your valuable feedback. Please visit Kyoto again if you have the opportunity.

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.
How much does Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride cost?
+
Prices start at $125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.
Is Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 37 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kyoto Bus Tour: Sagano Railway & Hozugawa River Boat Ride start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kyoto?
+
On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kyoto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kyoto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
