DO NOT RECOMMEND Almost Zero Communication & Tour Cancelled
One star is far too generous, but unfortunately zero isn't an option. This was an incredibly disappointing experience from start to finish. Communication was virtually non-existent. The only contact I received was a message asking me to communicate via WhatsApp, followed by a cancellation with just 14 hours' notice. When people are travelling, tours and experiences form part of a carefully planned itinerary. Cancelling at the last minute doesn't just cancel an activity, it wastes valuable holiday time and forces travelers to completely rearrange their plans. The lack of notice and professionalism shown here demonstrates very little regard for customers. What makes this even more frustrating is that I was able to replicate the entire experience myself using ChatGPT for roughly a third of the price. All it required was a 15-minute train ride. Had I known this booking could be cancelled with virtually no warning, I would never have booked it in the first place. The double standard is astounding. Operators can cancel at the last minute and ruin a customer's plans, yet customers are often expected to comply with strict cancellation policies themselves. For anyone considering booking this tour, my recommendation is simple: save your money and do it yourself. Catch the train, visit the bamboo forest, see the monkeys, take the river ride and explore the temples. All of the major attractions are within easy walking distance of one another, and you'll have the flexibility to do everything at your own pace without risking a last-minute cancellation. If this were my business, I would be genuinely embarrassed by the way this was handled. Perhaps, with the constant flow of tourists through Kyoto, customer satisfaction simply isn't a priority. Regardless, this level of service is unacceptable. I expect a full refund and will be lodging a formal complaint with Viator regarding both the cancellation and the complete lack of communication. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise other travelers to look elsewhere.
