Constructed between 1965 and 1967, this underground network served as a vital shelter for the Viet Cong during some of the most intense periods of conflict. On this immersive tour, our knowledgeable local guide will lead you through sections of the original tunnels. You’ll hear fascinating stories, meet locals who helped dig the tunnels, and gain a deeper understanding of the resilience and ingenuity of the Vietnamese people during wartime. The journey doesn’t end underground—you’ll also explore some of the most peaceful coastal villages in Central Vietnam, offering a striking contrast between the scars of the past and the serenity of today.

My Lai Massacre - Son My Memorial
The Mỹ Lai Massacre was one of the most tragic war crimes committed by U.S. troops during the Vietnam War. On March 16, 1968, over 500 unarmed civilians—mostly women, children, and the elderly—were brutally killed in Sơn Mỹ village, Quảng Ngãi province. On this deeply moving tour, our local guide will lead you through the memorial site and museum, where powerful exhibits and original color photographs taken on that fateful morning bring the horrors of the event to life. You’ll have the chance to offer incense or flowers at the worship temple, honoring the memory of the 504 innocent victims. Next, walk through the quiet village nearby, where heartbreaking stories are still remembered by the local people. Step by step, you’ll witness remnants of destroyed homes, preserved foundations, and the mass graves where many victims were laid to rest. This experience is not only a lesson in history, but also a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of peace.

A challenging yet exciting and thought provoking experience
I went out on a bit of a limb on this tour as there wasn’t too many reviews but I don’t regret my choice. Far from it. I had an excellent host Thanh with brilliant English bring me around the sights with his team. These are some intense locations covering some very dark parts of the country’s history and aren’t something a tourist can easily access without a vehicle. What I really valued was the opportunity to also speak to locals who played a direct role in the history of the locations, particularly at the Ky Anh tunnel which was a brilliant experience, speaking to a local man who worked and fought from the tunnels from the age of 8. There was also a 78 year old woman there who helped create them back in the day which was very cool. The My Lai museum was really harrowing and also well delivered. There were some renovations ongoing but they weren’t too disruptive and I imagine will improve the site for future tourists. Be warned this covers some very dark material and doesn’t shy away from the atrocity that occurred there but I believe it imparts knowledge and understanding of the human condition that we should examine and reckon with rather than ignore or forget. It was a shame to see no other tourists present while I was there and hope this changes in future! Overall, this was a really fascinating but revelatory experience. My only slight quibble was that because I was a solo traveller I had no other option to view all these locations without paying for a private tour. But this is highly likely due to the current infrequent demand to see this history, and instead go to the more popular places for this such as tunnels like Cu Chi, but I feel like this would leave you poorer in experience if you don’t go. Ultimately, I can’t deny that I am happy with every bit of money I spent on this and would definitely recommend it to travellers looking for something different and thought-provoking. It’s also an opportunity to show some respect to the country, its history and its people.

We absolutely loved our tour with Ben & Sonny (he was training) we learned alot, met courageous people who witnessed, fought and dug the tunnels. I've seen videos of the tunnels, but being there in person is just wow. And then visiting the Son My Massacre Museum really opened our eyes. I'm glad this was a private tour, also lunch was great.

Ky Anh Private Tour
We had a fantastic private tour to the Ky Anh Tunnel and the Mother Thu Statue. Thanh from Local Buddy was an awesome guide and was full of interesting information and answered all of the questions we had. We highly recommend taking a tour with Local Buddy and would definitely use them again.

Remembering the Struggles of the Vietnamese People
I opted to do the half day tour of Ky Anh tunnels and Mother Thu statue and I'm so glad that I booked it with Local Buddy Tours. The driver, car and Thanh, my guide, were all excellent. I was picked up from my apartment on schedule and the car was immaculately clean and with very welcome air con. The drive to our first step was full of interest as Thanh was so easy to talk to and he was interested to know about me. He shared his knowledge of Vietnam and related locations along the way. Thanh was a very good interpreter at the tunnels and helped me along with the loan of a baseball cap which I appreciated and a bottle of water. I enjoyed myself immensely both down in the tunnels and above ground. It was wonderful to hear stories about the history of the tunnels. One of the most important places that I wished to visit whilst staying in Da Nang was the Mother Thu statue. It is one of the most poignant and humbling stories of self sacrifice that I have ever heard. I am so happy that I was able to pay my respects by visiting this location. Thanh was also able to accommodate a couple of other brief stops on th ereturn journey which I am so grateful for as it rounded off a marvellous few hours spent in his company and experiencing these special places.

Very interesting tour of the Ky Anh tunnels
We took a guided tour with lots cal buddies, this was an excellent service, including driver and guide who spoke excellent English. The tour was led by a local Vietnamese villager who had taken part in the war, so had great knowledge of the tunnels and the part they played in the war. Our guide acted as translator which worked very well. I would recommend this tour to anyone especially as you get to go through some of the tunnel system.
