Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a scenic thirteen mile stretch of river as it moves its way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, otters, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months. We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site. Each reservation includes a kayak or paddleboard rental, paddle, PFD (personal flotation device) and return shuttle to starting site. This is an UNGUIDED kayaking experience. While this is primarily a scenic float there are sections of swift water and kayakers often tip out – so be prepared to get wet.

Our Granite Reef kayaking trip was amazing
My wife and I did the Granite Reef kayaking trip earlier this month and we had a really great time. The staff was friendly and helpful and our whole experience from registration through returning to the ranch was smooth and easy. This is a great outfit and we'll definitely visit again if we make it back to the Phoenix area. I can't say enough about how wonderful our trip on the river was. Coming from western PA we saw very different landscapes than we're used and it was beautiful. The river was apparently a bit low for our trip which meant a bit more paddling towards the end and our trip took closer to 5 hours but I'm not going to complain about more time on the water. The low water also offered us a chance to see lots of wild horses munching on the eel grass in the middle of the river. That was quite the cherry on top of a fantastic and memorable trip.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! It’s fantastic that you got to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and even spot some wild horses along the way. Thank you for highlighting our staff and the smooth experience — it means a lot to us. We can’t wait to see you again next time you visit the Phoenix area for more river adventures!

Best experience in Arizona.
We always have a great yearly girls trip! This year did not disappoint! The accommodations were great, the food was delicious, the kayaking/paddleboarding was award-winning.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re so glad your yearly girls’ trip was a hit again! It sounds like you made the most of the accommodations, food, and paddling fun. We can’t wait to see you back next year for another unforgettable adventure on the river!

Disappointed Kayaking to Granite Reef
Their rental kayak is way too small for most people. I am 235 lbs and it was way too small and tippy. Their 4-1/2 hour anticipated trip time to paddle to Granite Reef to meet the shuttle is not realistic. I was 2 hours late, missing their 12:30 shuttle finishing at 2:15pm, and was assessed a $50 fee which was painfully reduced to $30 later on. The river flow rate was 730cfs which is very slow and the 5mph headwind up the river from the west slowed my travel even more. I also helped rescue one of their overturned guests which took time to do, but they were not concerned. Be sure to read the fine print of the paperwork before you sign. I bet they make a lot of money with the late fee and shuttle fee. The scenery was beautiful along with the wildlife but the small kayak, the stinky life vest, and the late fee, ruined the trip for me. I would NOT recommend this trip to my friends.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the scenery and wildlife, though we’re sorry to hear that the rest of your experience did not meet your expectations. For clarity, all guests are given detailed trip information before launching, including the anticipated 4.5-hour paddle time and the 12:30 pm return shuttle. On the day of your trip, there were 9 other guests on the same route who all returned in time for the scheduled shuttle. We also understand that you expressed an interest to our staff members in staying out on the river much longer than we allow for this trip, despite being told that there would only be one launch/pickup time for this location. As the only guest who required a separate pickup, one of our staff members was required to stay for a few more hours to accommodate your return shuttle. The $30 late/additional shuttle fee reflects the cost of this extra trip, and it’s clearly stated in the signed waiver and trip policies. We understand that wind and river flow conditions can affect pace, and we always encourage guests to plan their paddling time accordingly. We apologize that the kayak did not feel comfortable for you. Our single kayaks are rated up to 275 lbs and are used by many guests of different sizes, but we understand that comfort and stability can vary from person to person. We appreciate your input and will continue working to provide clear expectations and a safe, enjoyable river experience for all of our guests.

Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Phoenix.
How much does Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Phoenix usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Phoenix is not rushed.
Is Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 162 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Phoenix, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip?
+
Around 57 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Phoenix can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Phoenix and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Phoenix within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Phoenix?
+
Phoenix runs on desert experiences: sunrise hot air balloon lifts over the Sonoran, Camelback and South Mountain hikes, off-road Tonto Forest tours and day trips to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Heat safety and start times decide whether a tour is good, so we weight timing detail in the ranking. On Outty we rank every Phoenix experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kayaking the Salt River Foxtail Trip, Grand Canyon with Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon Van Tour, Ancient Ruins Tour - Guided Arizona Desert Tour by UTV. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Phoenix?
+
November to April. Summer tours run at dawn or not at all. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Phoenix?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip?
+
Included: Single sit on top Kayak or Paddleboard, Life Jacket, Paddle. Not included: Gratuities Not Included. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
Where is the meeting point for Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip?
+
Your launch time is the time we leave. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes or more, before your time to complete the check-in process. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan your own transport and arrive 15 minutes early.
Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Kayaking the Lower Salt River Granite Reef Trip?
+
