Highlight of our stay
Booked this lesson a bit last minute but it was a highlight of our trip. Austin was friendly and knowledgeable. We had zero experience but were able to get to standing pretty quickly, and really enjoyed the lesson.

Group lesson review
We booked a 9:00 a.m. surf lesson for four kids ($100 per child, $400 total) based on the advertised format of 30 minutes of land instruction followed by about an hour of surfing in the water. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. After the land lesson, there was a walk to the surf location, which took additional time. The lesson area was also very crowded with other surf schools. Our instructor then realized he had forgotten his water shoes, leaving the kids waiting for about 10 more minutes. By the time they finally got into the water, a significant portion of the lesson had already passed, and they were pulled out around 10:15 a.m. to prepare for the next group. In the end, the kids received only about 30–35 minutes of actual in-water instruction. The most disappointing part was the company's response. When I contacted them about the lost water time, I was essentially told that unless I could prove it, they wouldn't do anything about it. We expected the advertised hour of water instruction and did not receive it. Based on our experience, we don't feel the lesson was worth the cost, and we'd recommend looking at other surf schools before booking.
Response from the operator: For future guests reading this review, we'd like to provide some additional context. Whenever a guest raises a concern, we take it seriously and investigate it thoroughly. In this case, we communicated with the guest over several emails, spoke with the instructor, and reviewed our operational records. Our review confirmed that the instructor returned to retrieve a piece of equipment before entering the water. That lapse in preparation has been addressed internally with our staff. However, we were not able to verify the claim that the lesson ended early or that only 30–35 minutes of in-water instruction were provided. As part of our normal operating procedures, instructors check in with our beach staff before and after every lesson, and those records were consistent with the lesson concluding at its scheduled end time. During our correspondence, the guest advised that their review would depend on how we resolved their request. While every guest is entitled to share their experience, our responsibility is to evaluate concerns based on the facts we can verify—not on the possibility of receiving a positive or negative review. We believe that is the fairest approach for every guest. No business is perfect, and when we identify an opportunity to improve, we address it. In this case, we've reinforced with our instructional staff the importance of being fully prepared before lessons begin to avoid unnecessary delays or confusion. We appreciate all guest feedback and remain committed to providing safe, professional, and enjoyable surf lessons for every family that chooses to spend part of their vacation with us.

Unfortunately, we had a...
Unfortunately, we had a medical emergency resulting in delay of our arrival. I notified the tour operator and was refused a refund. Additionally, calls and texts messages on viator were not responded on a timely manner. This has been an incredibly poor customer service experience.
Response from the operator: Hello, Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, and we truly hope everyone is okay following the medical situation you mentioned. Unfortunately, we’re unable to locate your reservation based on the name provided in this review. We encourage you to contact us directly so we can review your booking details and any notes from the day. For clarity, reservations made through Viator are handled as third-party bookings. While they provide a messaging system, it can sometimes delay or filter communication. For that reason, we send all guests a confirmation email and text with our direct contact information, which allows us to respond as quickly as possible. Regarding cancellations, all bookings—whether made directly or through third parties—are subject to a 24-hour cancellation policy, which is clearly outlined at the time of booking. Cancellations within that window are considered same-day and are not eligible for a refund. That said, in the case of a verified medical emergency where treatment was sought locally, we are always willing to review documentation and work with guests when appropriate. Please feel free to reach out to us directly so we can take a closer look at your situation. Mahalo,

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kauai.
How much does Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson cost?
+
Prices start at $122 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kauai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kauai is not rushed.
Is Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 125 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kauai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson?
+
Around 44 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kauai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kauai and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kauai's Ultimate Group Surf Lesson start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kauai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kauai?
+
Kauai sells Na Pali Coast boat and helicopter tours, Waimea Canyon drives, tubing through old plantation ditches and Hanalei kayak trips. Ocean conditions shut down the north shore boat runs in winter, so cancellation terms matter. On Outty we rank every Kauai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Koloa Zipline in Kauai, Kauai: NaPali Boat Tour on the Amelia K, Kauai: Secret Falls Kayak and Hike. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kauai?
+
April to June and September to October, with calmest seas in summer. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kauai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
