A wonderful, authentic samurai experience
Our whole family went for an authentic samurai training experience. We were presented with a genuine samurai outfit, which made it even more enjoyable. Sayo was a fantastic teacher and very committed to his craft. After the experience I decided to buy a traditional Japanese wakisashi sword from Sayo. I highly recommend the experience.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the kind words for Sayo and our samurai training. All the best from us here, John from Yushinkan International, Kyoto.

Excellent Sword Purchase Experience
Our sword purchase experience was amazing. We took a class in the dojo that was amazing too. Yushin Sensei, Sayo and Jordan were so nice, friendly and knowledgeable. Yushin Sensei explained and demonstrated the sword techniques in a way that was easy to follow. The translation to English was very good and the way they corrected us as students was very respectful. After the class, Yushin Sensei displayed several Katana for us to look at for purchase. They explained each sword and allowed me to feel and appreciate each one. The process was not pressured at all and was done with the highest respect to the dojo, the sword and Yushin Sensei. The sword arrived about three months after purchase. During the purchase process, the paperwork presented explained the process for getting the sword out of Japan as well as the time frame. Sayo kept in contact via email and let me know when the sword cleared the government. She sent the tracking number so I was able to follow the package. Further, I asked Sayo to send me the history of the sword I purchased. I was expecting a Japanese explanation of the sword’s history. She sent a Japanese and English translation. All of the paperwork was included in the box and all of the contents of the box was presented in Japanese culture. The sword was packaged in the box perfectly. The box was heavy cardboard and the filling inside the box was perfect. The sword arrived in the exact condition I purchased in. I do not know how the whole experience could have been done any better.
Response from the operator: Hello is John (a new translator) from Yushinkan International. I made sure to check with Sayo about the incredible review you left us. I told her how sincere and passionate your message was. She is indeed an understanding but hard worker and it meant a lot to her to google translate read and John-translated listen to your review! We all look forward to seeing you again and hope for our continued success. Absolute best regards, John Yushinkan International

Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.
How much does Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance cost?
+
Prices start at $3000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.
Is Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Katana Shopping in Kyoto with Expert Guidance start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kyoto?
+
On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Chopsticks Making Workshop with Engraving Option in Gion, Ultimate Kyoto Arashiyama Tour: Bamboo, Monkeys & Hidden Gardens, Kyoto: Gion Hidden Gems & Geisha Culture Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kyoto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kyoto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
