Kaikōura, whose name translates to ‘eat crayfish’ in English, is a small coastal town often overlooked by tourists. Caught between the Kaikōura Ranges - which in the winter are snowcapped and a sight to behold - and the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean (Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa), this area is truly breathtaking. Our first stop is in Cheviot, a hidden gem on one of New Zealand’s largest coastal routes. This is a perfect spot to stretch your legs and refuel. After our brief break, we’ll continue through the stunning Hundalee Hills, where you’ll have a chance to spot surfers and local wildlife, including seals! The scenic drive offers spectacular views all along the way.

The highlight of the tour! Upon arriving in Kaikōura, our guide will take you for a classic Kiwi fish and chip lunch. Afterwards, the guide will present a few options to ensure you maximise the most out of your day. For those wanting to explore the township, there is a boutique and eclectic mix of local shopping for you to enjoy. Guests are also free to join a leisurely stroll along the Kaikōura Peninsula to spot local wildlife (including New Zealand Fur Seals, various seabirds, and even the occasional dolphin pod if you are lucky!), who call this rugged, yet beautiful coastline home. Other options offered include Mangamaunu Bay - a popular surfing spot with stunning views out to the Pacific Ocean. Alternatively, we can arrange whale watching (either by boat or air), dolphin watching, or kayak and eco-zip experiences for you and your group (booked and sold separately).
