Tour Guide with Deep Knowledge

Nico was a fantastic tour guide! I do not think we could have dreamt of someone better to lead us through the market - experience as a professional chef and a degree in culinary anthropology. We not only ate amazing food, but we also learned so much about the history behind the food. The mole tasting and information about how masa is made were tremendous highlights! Thank you for a wonderful morning in Mexico City!

DO NOT MISS LA MERCED

Adrian was an outstanding guide. Extremely knowledgeable about not only the food of Mexico, Mexico City, and La Merced market, but the historical narratives they illustrate. I have taken this tour twice, and it is a must-do for anyone visiting Mexico City seeking to connect with the vibe.

Response from the operator: Hello John. We are very pleased that you took the tour again. We are delighted to have Adrián—the most experienced guide on our entire team—with us. We wish you many more trips to Mexico.

The best way to learn about Mexico City food culture and eat the best-tasting and best variety of tacos at the same time

This was the best activity and best food that we've had after 1 week in Mexico City. Market food is stall food, so with that expectation in advance, the experience of being in a real working market was amazing. Our guide Adrian was born in Mexico City but previously travelled the world as a cook for 11 years and has encyclopedic knowledge of Mexican food and culture. He spoke fluent English, was easy going but honest in answering all our questions, and make each food stop a treat. He made sure that every vendor let us know which foods contained nuts peanuts, or shellfish for our group allergies, and was a delight just to talk with about any subject we were interested in. Absolutely our strongest recommendation for a food-related activity.

Thank you Yimnah!

We had such a wonderful time with Yimnah, truly the highlight of our trip. It was the most immersed I felt over the course of our stay in Mexico City. The food was great and the vendors were so kind. I don’t think we could have experienced something like that without this tour.

Journey Through La Merced: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.

How much does Journey Through La Merced cost?

+

Prices start at $2400 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Journey Through La Merced take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.

Is Journey Through La Merced worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 380 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Journey Through La Merced?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Journey Through La Merced suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 14. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 3-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Journey Through La Merced?

+

Around 133 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Journey Through La Merced start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

+

On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mexico City?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mexico City?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
