What you get

    About this experience

The Great Wall is one of the top attractions in China and this tour offers an exceptional opportunity to experience its feat of engineering and grandeur, first hand. A hiking tour that conquers this world famous UNESCO site with an experienced guide to lead the way -a truly memorable experience! This tour takes you from the rugged and unrestored, picturesque Jiankou section of the Great Wall to the well preserved and scenically diverse Mutianyu section, so from an ‘untamed’, ‘wild’ and original section to a tamed and restored one. Along the way you’ll see some of its most rugged mountain peaks and famed photographic sections. In so doing you’ll experience some of the most iconic and beautiful views that a hike on the wall has to offer.  After your descent you’ll enjoy a well-earned rest with a delicious lunch in a local Chinese restaurant. Your day finishes with you being driven back to your hotel. Private vehicle, English-speaking guide and all entrance fees included.

Exclusive hike on Jiankou Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall

Making our group reservations was extremely easy. Mark Ma designed a trip that met my group's needs perfectly. And he even stayed flexible so that I was able to add an extra person the day before the trip. As for the trip itself, Jack, our tour guide, spoke excellent English! We had a small bus for our group of 8 that took us to a remote village which we then hiked through the forest up to the Jiankou section of the Great Wall. This section is closed to the general public and is not accessible without a tour guide. Once at the wall, Jack safely guided us across the majestic views from the Great Wall...truly an amazing experience that I will never forget. Eventually, we got to the "touristy" Mutianyu section and took the Toboggan Slide Down which was a blast...definitely worth the extra 100 RMB. After the hike, Jack (a Chinese foodie) took us to a tasty lunch at an authentic Chinese restaurant...delicious! I highly recommend this trip with Mark's Guide and Driver Service.

Response from the operator: Loved: "Mark Ma designed a trip that met my group's needs perfectly." We really appreciate the praise and kind words. Come back some time!

    Marvin Xu is amazing!

Showed us VIP treatment, worked on our schedule and showed us exactly where to go and shop! We stayed longer and he had no problem waiting and was ready with a cold car on a hot day!

Great Day at Mutianyu Great Wall

What a trip and what an unforgettable experience! My wife and I joined Mark's (Ma Hai) private tour to Mutianyu Great Wall and we had a great time as he accompanied us while we explored the Wall for the first time. He was able to park his car at the VIP parking lot which is super close to the entrance. This enabled us to have more time to explore the Wall. He even took some nice pictures for us while providing historical and culture background. We certainly learned a lot. On the way back and away from the crowd, Mark took us to a Northern Chinese cuisine restaurant where the food was good and authentic and the price was fair. What a lunch! I can't say enough about Mark's tour as his planning and attention to detail is second to none. We would definitely come back and join Mark's other tours when we visit Beijing again. Thank you super tour guide, Mark! Wayne and Joyce from San Francisco

Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Jiankou Great Wall Hiking to Mutianyu Wall Private Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
