A Delicious Dive into Japan’s cuisine
Yuca was amazing, a great teacher, super friendly and made sure everyone was on the same page and informed. She was full of cultural knowledge and showed us a side of Japan you don’t see from regular tourist events. The class was fun and brilliantly informal, we would definitely recommend to others!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely words! It was such a pleasure cooking with you and sharing a side of Japan that is close to my heart. I'm delighted that you enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and had fun throughout the class. Thank you for recommending us, and I hope our paths cross again someday—whether in Tokyo or wherever your travels may take you!

An unforgettable experience
This cooking class was a wonderful opportunity for me to practice actual Japanese home cooking. Our group was small, allowing for everyone to fully participate. Yuca’s kitchen is beautiful and highly functional, full of uniquely Japanese equipment and utensils that add to the cultural experience provided by the class. A nice selection of unique knives, cutting boards, teas, candy , etc. are available for sale. Yuca is a kind teacher who makes learning how to make gyoza, ramen or bento boxes a lot of fun. The results were impressive. I have been cooking Japanese food for years but this took me to a different level! I highly recommend this class. Francoise.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Françoise, for your thoughtful and detailed review! It was truly a pleasure having you in the class. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed the hands-on experience and found it valuable for deepening your Japanese home cooking skills. Your kind words about the kitchen, equipment, and overall atmosphere mean a lot to me. It’s especially wonderful to know that the class helped take your cooking to the next level—that is the greatest compliment I could receive! Thank you as well for recommending the class. I hope to welcome you back again for another fun and inspiring cooking experience in the future! また会いましょう! Warm regards, YUCa

Feeling like a local with Yuca 💕
If you want to step away from the tourist traps and experience true Japanese hospitality, this is the place. Yuca taught us to cook a complete and delicious meal (the ramen and gyoza were outstanding!) with so much care. We also had the pleasure of meeting her husband, who shared some excellent Sake with us. The stroll to the local supermarket was super helpful to understand the ingredients better. It felt like visiting a friend's home. 10/10 recommended!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful and thoughtful review! It truly means a lot to hear that you felt the warmth of Japanese hospitality during the experience. I’m so happy you enjoyed cooking ramen and gyoza together, and also the visit to the local supermarket. My husband was also very happy to share some sake with you! It really felt like having friends over at our home. Thank you for such a lovely time, and I hope we can meet again someday. Enjoy the rest of your travels!

Take home more than just a souvenir!
This was the best experience of our entire trip. I love to cook and was very interested in learning traditional Japanese cooking. Yuca was so patient with all of my questions. The class comes with instructions to take home and I was able to write all kinds of notes so that I would be able to perfectly recreate the same food when I came home. Yuca also offers several premium local foods for purchase. We walked away with not just the class, but some amazing matcha powder, a Yuca's cooking class branded apron (one of my FAVORITE souvenirs of the whole trip), and Yuzu Sake that her husband sells. The trip to the grocery store is also amazing. I was able to learn about Japanese ingredients that I could source at home. Completely worth the price and you couldn't ask for a nicer instructor. 10/10 do recommend.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this incredible review! I’m truly honored that the class was the best experience of your entire trip — that means more to me than I can say. I loved all of your thoughtful questions and your enthusiasm for learning traditional Japanese cooking. I’m so happy to hear that the notes and instructions will help you recreate the dishes back home. It also makes me smile to know that the apron became one of your favorite souvenirs! I’m glad you enjoyed the matcha and the yuzu sake as well — my husband will be very happy to hear that 😊 Cooking together, visiting the grocery store, and sharing ingredients is one of my favorite parts of the experience, so I’m thrilled you found it valuable. Thank you again for joining the class and for your kind words. I truly hope our paths cross again one day. Happy cooking!

Fun family cooking!
We had an amazing time cooking with Yuca with our family! We traveled with another family and we both had elementary age children with us. Yuca was so kind and patient. She did an awesome job of including the kids in our cooking class. We also can’t wait to try some of the yummy recipes of the cooking we did when we return back home. Thank you Yuca for welcoming us into your home! It was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Japan.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful message! It truly made my day to read it. I had such a wonderful time cooking with your family and loved sharing the experience with both families and the kids. They did an amazing job and brought so much energy and joy to the class. I’m so happy to hear that the cooking class became one of your favorite parts of your trip to Japan—that means a lot to me. I hope you enjoy making the recipes again at home and that they bring back fun memories of our time together. Thank you again for coming and for the lovely words. You are always welcome back anytime!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.
How much does Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit cost?
+
Prices start at $25000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.
Is Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Japanese Home Cooking Class with Local Supermarket Visit start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tokyo?
+
Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tokyo?
+
Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
