    Wonderful Sencha

A fascinating and deeply peaceful Senchado experience in Kyoto! Rather than just learning the steps, I learned the rich history of tea and the philosophy behind Senchado—which focuses on appreciating the true flavor of tea leaves. The concept of Chazen Ichimi taught me to engage all my senses: listening to the water, feeling the cup, and enjoying the incense. I left with a deeper appreciation for Japanese aesthetics like Mitate and Kekkai, and a newfound mindfulness I can apply to my daily coffee or tea at home. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto!

    Learning about Japanese tea culture

I had such an amazing experience with Japanese sencha. I learned about the history of tea and how subtle and delicate the Japanese tea ceremony can be. The cups of sencha I enjoyed were completely different from the ones I had had before. The café was so clean and beautifully surrounded by antique pieces that I felt as if I had been transported back to old Japan. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who is interested in learning more about Japanese tea culture.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for visiting us and writing such a heartwarming review! We are delighted that you had an amazing experience exploring the delicate nature and history of sencha. Knowing our antique setting made you feel transported back in time while enjoying a truly unique cup of tea brings us immense joy. We sincerely hope to welcome you back again on your next trip!

A Wonderful and Unique Tea Ceremony Experience

We had the wonderful opportunity to experience both Sencha and Gyokuro tea ceremonies, and it was truly a memorable experience. Matcha tea ceremonies are quite easy to find in Japan, but Sencha and Gyokuro ceremonies are much less common, so we were especially excited to have the chance to experience them. At the beginning of the ceremony, we learned about the differences between Matcha and Sencha, as well as the history and traditions behind these tea ceremonies. We then enjoyed the beautiful tea utensils, the elegant and graceful tea preparation, and, of course, the wonderful taste of both Sencha and Gyokuro. Sencha is much more commonly enjoyed in everyday life than Matcha, so it was especially interesting and useful to learn how to brew and enjoy Sencha in the best way. What we loved most was that the experience was not only about tea. We also learned how to slow down, focus on the present moment, and appreciate the aroma, taste, and subtle beauty of the tea. It was a peaceful, elegant, and meaningful experience that allowed us to appreciate Japanese tea culture on a deeper level. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience something beyond the usual Matcha tea ceremony!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your visit and for taking the time to share such an inspiring review! We are genuinely honored that your experience with both Sencha and Gyokuro left such a lasting impression. It brings us great joy to know that you appreciated discovering the art of brewing everyday tea with mindfulness and presence. We truly look forward to guiding you through another meaningful tea journey on your next visit!

    taste the real

It was a very wonderful experience. Matcha is very popular, but I was able to learn the difference between matcha and Japanese tea. I was able to taste the real delicious Japanese tea. And I was able to relax and enjoy.

Response from the operator: We are deeply grateful for your visit and for taking the time to write such a sweet review! It brings us immense joy to hear how much you enjoyed relaxing during the session. Helping guests discover how distinct leaf teas are from matcha is one of our favorite parts of this experience. We truly look forward to sharing more delicious tea with you on your next visit!

Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.

How much does Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro cost?

    +

Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.

Is Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Japanese Green TEA 1-hour Experience Sencha and Gyokuro start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto Ghost Tour: Dark Tales, Urban Legends, Bamboo Forest Night, Kyoto : Chopsticks Making Workshop with Engraving Option in Gion, Kyoto: Gion Hidden Gems & Geisha Culture Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
