    The fifth convent to be erected in the present-day state of Yucatan, Mexico, is the Convent of San Antonio de Padua, which is situated in Izamal (etymology: Itzmal: Dew of the sky), Yucatan. It was constructed between 1549 and 1561.

    Archeological zone: We will not only visit the beautiful downtown of Izamal with its gorgeous yellow constructions, but we will also visit 3 pyramids located right within the city: Itzamatul Pyramid + Kinich Kakmó Pyramid + Hun Pik Toc Pyramid. Izamal originally belonged to the Mayas, but once the Spaniards took it, many Spanish constructions were built on top of existing Mayan pyramids. One example of this is The San Antonio de Padua Convent, which was built on top of a Mayan building using its rocks and more elements. This was very common within cities that were conquered by Europeans. They used to do this to evangelize Mayans and convert them to catholicism.

    After the visit to the city and the Mayan pyramids, we will take you to the Cultural Center Museum, the Izamal Square, and a jewelry handcraft workshop. We want you to know the culture of Izamal´s people, their traditions, their history, and their identity through every step of the tour. This is the best plan for you to get to know absolutely everything about this lovely city. You will have with you the knowledge of the tourist guide, the experience of the bus driver and have an experience like no other. We'll also make a 1-hour stop for lunch at the Kinich Restaurant.
