What you'll see and do
Ollantaytambo
The hike begins at the Ollantaytambo plaza, from where we will head towards the Inca bridge, which is located at the entrance to Ollantaytambo, before the rock climb. The first part of the hike is easy, although there are some small climbs, as we will reach the top of one of the mountains surrounding Ollantaytambo. During the hike, we will be able to observe the entire territory of Ollantaytambo and its Inca buildings, as well as, during the first part of the hike, the Urubamba River, which will be our constant companion. The hike to Inti Punku in Ollantaytambo is 8.5 kilometers and covers an elevation gain of almost 1,200 meters. Therefore, we must be in good physical condition and have previously acclimatized to avoid altitude sickness.

Ollantaytambo
After completing more than half the hike (6 kilometers), we will reach the Cachiqata stone quarries, where the ancient inhabitants of the Tahuantinsuyu Empire collected materials for their impressive Inca buildings and temples. From here, we will see certain buildings and objects that were left unfinished. It is an ideal place to take a break, as well as explore the area to discover all its mysteries.
Pass by without stopping
Inti Punku Sun Gate
The hike from the Cachiqata quarries to Inti Punku takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes, with a steady climb. One kilometer from the finish, you can see the Inti Punku structure, which provides extra motivation. Along the way, you also pass the Inti Punku camp, where many choose to spend the night to watch the sunrise from the Sun Gate. Upon arrival, the well-maintained structure and the views of Mount Verónica and the landscape at almost 3,900 meters above sea level offer a magical experience. It's an ideal place to admire the Inca buildings and take unforgettable photographs. It's recommended to bring water and snacks. The return journey follows the same path we took up, and thanks to the constant descent, the journey time can exceed three hours. On the way down, we can see another angle of the hike, along with all the flora that adorns the path.

Nice experience
One of the nicest things about this tour was the quiet atmosphere. We could actually take our time and enjoy the surroundings. The mountain views were fantastic, especially toward the end of the route. Seeing the Sun Gate in person was a special moment.

Many thanks 😊
Our guide was excellent at explaining the history of Inti Punku without making the tour feel like a lecture. We also had plenty of time to stop for photos.

Definitely worth visiting
Inti Punku is one of those places that looks beautiful in pictures but feels even better in person. The mountain views were unforgettable.

Bring your camera
The trail itself was beautiful, but the view from Inti Punku was something else entirely. I took far more pictures than I expected and still felt like I hadn’t captured the scale of the landscape.

Great Guide, Great Experience
Our guide made the difference. He kept an eye on the group, explained the history of Inti Punku, and knew when to slow down so we could appreciate the scenery. The whole day felt well managed.

Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.
How much does Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $130 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 14 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.
Is Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 2. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 14-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 14-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol Full Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
