What you'll see and do
Thrihnukagigur Volcano
Our meeting point is a ski cabin in the mountains. When you arrive our guides will give the group a short briefing before leading the way across the lava field. The hike is about 3 km/2 mi each way. The hike usually takes 45 min to cover with your guide. At basecamp you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you are informed of the safety procedures, followed by everyone gearing up. After a final inspection of your safety equipment we walk up to the lift and descend into the volcano. We lower you into the volcano in a lift, operated by our expert mountaineers. The ride takes 7 minutes and is quite frankly spectacular. You spend half an hour inside the volcano, during which time you can take as many photos as you want. Our guides will be with you at all times to answer any questions. When back on the surface you will be served traditional Icelandic lamb soup or a vegan option. Once everyone is ready you will walk back over the lava field, accompanied by a guide at all times.

Once in a Lifetime
It is a beautiful hike even in the rain and we had the best guide Jasmine. The lamb soup was fantastic once you got back from inside the volcano.

Well-organized...
Well-organized experiences. The starting point is well-marked and has ample changing facilities. We visited in June. Rain can be expected, and the inside of the volcano is colder than the outside. I recommend bringing rain coat, rain pants, and gloves. After the hike to the volcano (about w miles), there’s a base camp with hot beverages and toilets where we waited for our turn to go into the volcano. The inside of the volcano was remarkable and interesting, but I’m on the fence of whether it was worth the price. After we returned front he volcano, the company provided very good soup at the base camp before we hiked back. Everything was well-run and professional.

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Reykjavik?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
