Thien Mu Pagoda
OPTIONAL STOP: Located on the north shore of the Perfume River about 3km from the Imperial Citadel. You can get there by dragon boat along the Perfume River, or for those feeling more energetic, a pleasant bicycle ride. The Thien Mu Pagoda is regarded as the unofficial symbol of the former imperial capital. Today it is the home of the Austin Motor Vehicle which drove Thich Quang Duc to his self-immolation in Saigon in 1963 in protest against the Diem regime. It is still home to many monks and a holy site visited by many everyday.

MOTORBIKE OPTION ONLY - OPTIONAL: one of the most interesting sights in Hue, just about 3km away from city center. This is probably the most interesting site in Hue, and it is all too often overlooked by visitors. It was built in 1830 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang to stage yearly battle fights between an elephant and a tiger.

Tomb of Khai Dinh
OPTIONAL STOP: Tombs built from 1920 to 1931. This is the only one tomb of the Nguyen Emperors built with blended architecture of Vietnamese Buddhism, Hinduism and Roman. Also this is the only one tomb, where body of the Emperor was placed under neath of his tomb.

Imperial Tomb of Dong Khanh
OPTIONAL STOP: Dong Khanh Tomb is one of the must visit royal tombs in Hue, Vietnam. The worship and burial area of the 9th emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. Tomb has a combination of Asian and European architecture. This tomb is recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site.

MOTORBIKE OPTION ONLY - OPTIONAL and LONG WALK FROM ENTRANCE: The mausoleum began construction in 1814 and was not completed until 1820. The entire mausoleum is a mountain complex with 42 hills and mountains, large and small, of which Dai Thien Tho is the largest mountain chosen as a precedent of the mausoleum and is the name of the whole mountain. From the banks of the Perfume River to the mausoleum, there is a wide road on both sides growing pine and melancholy soaring, blue, creating a cool, quiet air. Two majestic pillars are located on the outside, signaling the tomb.

Tomb of Tu Duc
OPTIONAL STOP: Built by King Tu Duc (1847 - 1883) for himself from 1864 - 1867. This was also place where King Tu Duc sometimes lived and worked when he was still alive. Tomb's area is about 12 Hecta including 2 seperated areas: Temple area and Burial area.

Thuy Tien Lake
OPTIONAL STOP: The Abandoned water park (or Thuy Tien lake water park, the Dragon water park, Hue old water park) is a dead theme park just outside of Hue city. It’s built and operated for a short period before being completely forgotten. Local people still come here to do exercise or go on picnics but for tourists, no ideas! A few years ago, an American news website mentioned it and the journalists said that it’s one of the most fearful places all over the globe. Following this post, many curious tourists and discoverers found ways to see it, reviewed it online and showed the world how interesting it is.

Mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang
OPTIONAL STOP: Tomb of Minh Mang (also known as Minh Menh) also called Hieu Lang, built by Emperor Thieu Tri of the Nguyen Dynasty, is located on Cam Ke mountain, An Bang hamlet, Huong Tho commune, Hue city, province. Thua Thien Hue, near Bang Lang junction, is the confluence of two streams, Huu Trach and Ta Trach, forming the Perfume River, 12 km from the center of Hue city. Minh Mang Mausoleum was built from 1840 to 1843, when it was completed, it mobilized up to ten thousand workers and soldiers.

Tu Hieu Pagoda

Built in 1843, this sacred site is widely celebrated for its profound serenity, deep connection to the imperial Nguyen Dynasty, and its legacy as the root temple of the world-renowned Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh. It is also the only pagoda in Vietnam featuring a dedicated cemetery for imperial court eunuchs from the nearby Nguyen Dynasty tombs, who helped fund and restore the pagoda to secure a final resting place.

Nice family tour of Khai Dinh’s tomb & Thien Mu Pagoda
My family and I had a nice time visiting Thien Mu Pagoda and Khai Dinh’s tomb. Linh was our guide and was great! Her English was good and her history knowledge great! We also visited an incense stick making shop and the kids got to have a try too - we recommend this place (lovely smelling incense sticks - lemongrass and cinnamon being a fave). She let us take our time and was patient given our 4 kids’ age range. We got to see the beauty of Hue’s history. Thank you 🙏

Fantastic historical tour with exceptional Guide
The best tour we’ve had! Teo was so knowledgeable about Vietnamese history (which is complicated, with so many different wars and kings and leaders) he made it interesting and understandable so we throughly enjoyed visiting all the sites on this full day tour. If you book this tour, make sure you ask for Teo as he makes it memorable and I’m now so much more aware of how and why Vietnam has evolved in to the country it is today. We all really felt like we learned a lot today! Thank you Teo! We felt safe on the scooters too, this was a great way to get around the city.
