What you get

    About this experience

Leaving nothing but a trail of hoof prints behind you, you’ll trot, canter and gallop your way through forest and palm-fringed beaches on this horseback ride. You’ll have the chance to experience the Dominican Republic’s landscape exactly the way nature intended. From the hotel, you’ll soon arrive at a traditional ranch where you’ll be given all the gear you need and paired up with a horse. Then, into the stirrups and up onto the saddle, you’ll set off through untouched countryside with only peace and tranquillity around you. You’ll take the reins through forest trails, darting in and out of shaded spots and looking out for wildlife as we go, until we arrive at the mouth of the River Maimon – a protected area. You’ll then canter past sugar-white beaches before reaching the ranch once again.

    Amazing horse riding experience!

This was an amazing experience. They picked us up on time they just come up and say your name. The drive from our resort was about 40 mins. There is a ranch with lots of horses u get there they give u a horse and you go. Oscar was our guide he was amazing!!!! The horses were sweet also and they were very well trained. This was my second time ever riding horses but it was nice. U get to take pictures on the beach and the river. U also get to go a little faster instead of walking on the beach. Defiantly wear long pants but a t shirt is fine. I would also say closed toe shoes. Other than that I really enjoyed it. They are sweet people and I had a great time.

    Amazing time on horse ride!

Loved the horseback ride, well worth the money and more than we expected. People there were very nice and worth spending a few extra minutes there chatting with them and looking around at the farm at the other animals. Horses were very tame and they control them very well. I had only been on horse one other time 20+ years ago and my husband is an experienced rider, matched both of us well. Amazing experience to ride on the beach (very romantic) and our guide cut us down a coconut to drink on the way. They have a photographer come and take pictures on the beach, bring extra money with you and you can get copy of them all on a USB, they also have a nice gift shop there with all kinds of things, and bring a few dollars for the driver, guides and others on the farm. We will definitely go on this again next time we visit Punta Cana (maybe we'll go twice next time)!

    Sensational experience!

They took amazing pictures of the family. They were very nice and comforting especially with my kids, it was their first time riding horse and I couldn’t be happier with our family experience. They were very attentive and even provided bug repellent at the beginning and throughout the tour. Amazing! Would definitely do it again!

Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.

How much does Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana cost?

    +

Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.

Is Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Horseback Riding to Maimon River from Punta Cana start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
