About this experience
Climb into the saddle and see a new side of Hawaii Enjoy a relaxing horseback ride through one of Oahu’s hidden treasures—the Hawaiian countryside of Gunstock Ranch. You and your horse will travel through shady forest trails and trek across open pastures, spotting grazing cattle, soaring island birds, and maybe even a family of wild pigs. The grand finale of the tour is the lookout over the stunning North Shore coastline and the quiet town of Laie, nestled on the edge of the crystal-clear ocean. It’s a great spot for photos and a moment of relaxation in one of the most beautiful places around. Plus, the whole ride will be intimate, with small group sizes, so you can experience an authentic paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) adventure.

First time easy rider
Gunstock Ranch is very vast. Almost 1000 acres. Lush and green. The ranch has a petting zoo for the children. Plenty of seating. Staff provided pouches for personal items just enough for your camera and keys. They also provided helmets. The wranglers were very attentive and happy. Made me want to live and work on a ranch! The ride was very relaxing as a first time rider. Love the pictures taken against the beautiful backdrop of the location. Would definitely come back again!

Awesome day on horseback, beautiful views!
This horseback riding tour was so much fun! The crew was very welcoming when we first arrived, gave us a quick rundown on how to mount and control the horses, and then we visited the animals in the petting zoo while waited for the rest of our group to arrive. My horse, Boone, was amazing! He was so smart, stopped when the horses in front of us stopped, went when they went, and easily moved when I asked him to. So sweet! My sister's horse didn't want to go from the get go, so part way into the tour, they brought us Scooby. He was much quicker to move and easier to handle. So thankful they were able to switch it up for the long ride. The whole tour was about an hour and a half long on clear trails, partly through the open and partly through trees so we had shade and sun. We couldn't have asked for better weather. The views at the top were out of this world! Our guide, Reagan, was awesome too! She was very friendly, kept us engaged as a group, very personable - especially when we were switching out the horses. You could tell she really cared about the horses and told us many facts about the ranch itself. The entire staff was great! I would highly recommend this tour for any age (as long as you can tolerate sitting for a while).

Pretty cool to check out...
Pretty cool to check out the Ranch and the red dirt/land. Wish it was not nose-to-tail formation (as I had a bad experience as a kid, and so my anxiety level was up the entire ride). The horses seemed well cared for and use to the drill.

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oahu.
How much does Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku cost?
+
Prices start at $155 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oahu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oahu is not rushed.
Is Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 222 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oahu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku?
+
Around 78 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oahu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oahu and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Horseback Ride Like an Authentic Paniolo in Kahuku start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oahu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oahu?
+
On Outty we rank every Oahu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Oahu: Full or Half Day Grand Circle Island Tour, Oahu Small-Group Circle Island Tour with Turtle Snorkeling, Pearl Harbor Remembered Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oahu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oahu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
