The Pilatos Palace is a reference for the Sevillian Holy Week. A palace that tried to make a beauty competition with the Alcazar. We will continue to the district of the Alfalfa. It is a neighborhood with intricate narrow streets since they are part of the historic center. We will arrive to the Salvador’s church, from where several Brotherhoods come out in procesion. It is one of the Holy Week highlights and it is the second largest church in town. It was built on the former Mosque remains, built in the XIIth century. You can check by visiting its courtyard and former minaret. Juan de Mesa and Martínez Montañez are great Andalusian sculptors who contribute to this celebration. *If for any reason outside the company such as lack of available tickets or closing of any monument, we can not visit any of the monuments included, this will be replaced by any other that is considere.

Without a single doubt, The Pilatos Palace is a reference for the Sevillian Holy Week. A palace that tried to make a beauty competition with the Alcazar. According to the legend of don Fadrique, one of the palace owner’s in the XVIth century, was the one who started a Via Crucis to the Cruz del Campo.

We will arrive to the Salvador’s church, from where several Brotherhoods come out in procesion. It is one of the Holy Week highlights and it is the second largest church in town. It was built on the former Mosque remains, built in the XIIth century. You can check by visiting its courtyard and former minaret. We learned that the tour...
We learned that the tour schedule is subject to change based on a guide’s availability and certain monuments’ modified schedules during the Holy Week. In our case the tour was postponed from 10:30 to about 12:10. Fortunately we had some flexibility that day in our planned itinerary, and it worked out after the guide adjusted the plan.

Semana Santa as a tourist
Sevilla during Semana Santa is like no other! Do your research ahead of time to understand the culture and crowd, be prepared to just go with the flow. Most hotels will have the map with times for you to go and scout out places to see the processions- for us it was a little hard to navigate so it wasn’t super helpful. There is an app “El Penitente” that shows you routes, and times of the processions with a gps of where they are (only in Spanish). You can also visit the tourist center next to the Alcazar that will provide you a map and recommendations of where to see them as well. Overall if you are a tourist just go with the flow and you will see many processions (we stumbled upon many just walking around the city). We recommend staying up late as the crowds die down a bit. We got lucky and were able to enter the cathedral for free and grab a seat in the front for the final procession of the night. They opened the doors to everyone at about 11pm and the final procession came in about 12:15am. It was such a special moment.

UNMISSABLE...
FAITH AND TOURISM...exciting and engaging...difficult to explain in words, you have to experience it to understand how much importance this week-long event has for the Spanish Andalusians (and I think not only), honestly I was very struck by the devotion and preparation of the entire event. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you have the opportunity to participate and assist

Great Holy Week Guide
Moises gave my family and I a great tour of Seville. We started in the Pilates palace and learned a lot about the history of Seville. The highlight of the day was watching one of the Seville Holy Week parades. It’s not easy to know where to go to watch them without a ticket and without getting blocked by the crowds when you want to leave. But Moises knew exactly to manage. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you care fortunate enough to get Moises as your guide.

Historic beautiful Sevilla
This was our third visit to Sevilla and finally during Holy Week. The city is flooded with tourists and the historic district is virtually blocked for the whole week. Every day there are at least 5 processions that leave from the various parishes and arrive at the cathedral and then return. The thousands of people invading the city force the creation of one-way pedestrians and police-regulated crossings. Mild climate, great food, friendly people. Go and lose yourself in the tiny streets of Juderia. Historical, religious, beautiful Sevilla.
