Excellent Hoi An tour!
We had a very nice tour of Hoi An with John. He and his driver picked us up from our Danang hotel for our group of six and it was so convenient to have a driver for the day and a personal tour guide. John was very funny and friendly and the day was just perfect!

Approachable and accommodating, professional and personable, reliable and reasonable.
Long review ahead as I share my experience from engaging John Lee Tours, not just on the tour per se, but my perspective of John as a person. Please read on if you’re looking for a peace of mind for a tour and a personable professional as a guide! I have heard about John through word of mouth from my colleague and her family who had a positive experience with John, and liaised directly with him to arrange for this tour. Prior to the tour, I had lots of questions to which he patiently and thoroughly addressed my concerns, all while accommodating to my requests and preferences. He never once insisted on his way but offered his personal and professional advice. For example, I enquired about starting the tour in the morning so that my family can return to our hotel to rest early as we had an early start the next day. But John advised that the sun/weather would be less bearable and less comfortable for families (and even thought of our toddler’s naptime!) and advised that a main highlight of the trip is the lantern boat ride that is more enjoyable and memorable at sundown, all while remaining calm, friendly, and still willing to accommodate to our family’s timing and preferences (eg if we still wanted it in the morning). He would also arrange all transportation, logistics, food options, and we don’t have to worry about anything — just leave it to him! So with a peace of mind assured, we decided to proceed as he suggested and I thought he’d arrange another guide for us but the man himself turned out to be our guide! He said that he’s available and wanted to guide us himself — such passion! And consistent with his texts and emojis, he’s so smiley, friendly, and helpful! Throughout the tour, John is thoughtful, patient, accommodating, and adaptive — we are very appreciative of such traits! He even helped carry our toddler’s stroller where necessary, watched over our belongings while we changed her diaper, negotiated with a popular restaurant to allow our stroller to be brought in, and collected on my behalf the engraved chopsticks that I bought from a souvenir stall, which was never on his agenda until I had mentioned that I was looking for something small yet practical as souvenir! He is attentive, patient, observant, and adapts to our needs and preferences during the tour. Finally, John also shares information as we walked around Old Town and takes nice photos and videos, thus creating memories for my family to look back on. Thank you John for your wonderful personality and service! 10/10 would recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed review. Reading your kind words truly made my day. It was a real pleasure meeting you and your lovely family. I'm especially happy that my suggestions helped make your Hoi An experience more enjoyable. Every family has different needs, and my goal is always to provide honest advice while ensuring each tour is comfortable, flexible, and tailored to my guests' preferences. Thank you for trusting my recommendations, especially regarding the tour timing. I'm delighted that you enjoyed the lantern boat ride at sunset and that everything worked out well for your family, including your little one. Seeing your family have a relaxing and memorable day was the best reward for me. I'm also glad I could help with the little things along the way—from the stroller and restaurant arrangements to collecting your engraved chopsticks. Sometimes it's those small moments that make a trip a little easier and more memorable. Thank you again for choosing John Lee Tours and for your wholehearted recommendation. It was an absolute pleasure guiding your family, and I hope to welcome you back to Hoi An someday. Wishing you and your family many more wonderful adventures together!

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hoi An.
How much does Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience cost?
+
Prices start at $1000000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hoi An usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hoi An is not rushed.
Is Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 44 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hoi An, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience?
+
Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hoi An can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hoi An and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Hoi An Through Local Eyes – Private Walking Experience start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hoi An within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hoi An?
+
On Outty we rank every Hoi An experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include HOI AN Hidden Gems in Rural Villages & River Islands PRIVATE TOUR, Coconut Jungle Eco & Hoi An City Tour With Boat Ride, Cooking Class Hoi An:Local Market, Basket Boat, Fishing & Cooking. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hoi An?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hoi An?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
