    Sobering My Lai Village Visit

We booked a private tour to My Lai with a few stops in between. The guide was pleasant, but the "English speaking" part of the tour was difficult to understand. We felt that an experience of this length and time might have warranted a guide with a stronger English speaking background. The itinerary advertised the following: "As we explore My Lai village, we will have the opportunity to meet local residents, gaining insight into their lives and the impact of the war on their community." This did not happen. All in all, we were pleased with the opportunity to visit My Lai Village and see the museum and grounds. It was an incredibly moving experience and one that we'll never forgot. We just had slightly higher expectations for the whole tour itself.

Response from the operator: Dear Meander, Thank you for visiting My Lai with us and for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We’re glad the memorial and museum left a meaningful impression — it’s truly a deeply moving place, and we appreciate the opportunity to help guests experience its history firsthand. We also hear your concerns regarding the guide’s English communication and the missed interaction with local residents, and we’re genuinely sorry the tour didn’t fully match the expectations set in the itinerary. Your comments are valuable and will help us improve both our guiding standards and how we present the experience moving forward. Kind Regards, Hoi An Express Travel Team

    My Lai day tour

We had another whole day with Abby. What a knowledgeable young lady she is. Our day out was about 8 hours. Full on, including lunch. A greet day, very interesting, heartbreaking too. Very much worth the money.

Response from the operator: Dear Judith, We’re so glad Abby's knowledge and care helped bring such an important and emotional part of history to life in a meaningful way. Thank you for spending the day with us, and for your thoughtful words about a tour that stays with people long after it ends.

A somber moment to pause and reflect

This was a great way to experience a tragic part of Vietnam’s history. Our guide Pham was full of local knowledge and made the trip so interesting. To stand in the Museum at My Lai was something I will never forget, to read the stories of what happened on that day and face the incomprehensible in a time when war is still raging in parts of the world. I think the part that moved me the most was the footpaths as you walk around the village, whick have preserved the bare footproots of the villagers and the treads of the GI boots.
