Lovely experience
Lovely experience enjoyed by my family - Tear was incredibly patient with us and her English was excellent. Our little silk lanterns looked pretty decent and it was nice to send off our wishes in the paper lanterns on the river. Thanks to Tear and would recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted to hear that your family enjoyed the lantern-making experience and the peaceful boat ride on the Hoai River. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with Tear — she’ll be very happy to know that her patience and English made your experience even more enjoyable. We’re also glad you enjoyed sending your wishes down the river. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope to welcome your family back to Hoi An again!

Fun, gorgeous, must-do 🏮🌊!
My husband & I did this activity together! It was a good experience creating the lanterns. I needed help, and the staff were there to help us! It felt a little rushed sometimes throughout the process. They offered bottled waters for us, no AC, only fans. After we were done making the lanterns and water offering, they helped us with the boat ride. It was included in the package. Have cash for a tip. The boat ride was nice, definitely could’ve been longer. Overall, we enjoyed it and had a good time!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We’re delighted to hear that you and your husband enjoyed making the lanterns and the Hoai River boat ride, and we’re especially glad our staff were there to assist you when needed. We also appreciate your honest feedback about the pace of the lantern-making class and the boat ride. We’ll take your comments into consideration to make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable for our guests. Thank you again for joining us, and we hope to welcome you back to Hoi An for another memorable experience!

Just ok cultural experience
Driver was over 20 minutes late picking us up. We got to the lantern making and only when others were late did they let us start. If you want to feel like all thumbs, making lanterns is where to go. Lanterns turned out well for us. The “private boat” with lantern float turned into a not so private float with another family. Because of this, we didn’t get the chance to put our lanterns in the water ourselves. No ride is provided back to the hotel
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. We are especially sorry about the lantern boat arrangement. Due to a misunderstanding by our guide when assigning the boats, your private boat was mistakenly shared with another family. We have discussed this directly with our guide, who sincerely apologizes for the mistake. We will take greater care to ensure this does not happen again. We’re also sorry for the pickup delay and understand your disappointment. We’re glad you enjoyed making the lanterns and were happy with the result. Regarding transportation, our tour includes hotel pickup but does not include hotel drop-off, as stated in the tour description. If you are still in Hoi An, please contact us. We would be happy to offer you a complimentary private lantern boat ride on the Hoai River, giving you the chance to release your lantern and make your wish as you had originally hoped. We truly appreciate your feedback and sincerely apologize again for the inconvenience.

Why this scores 79
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hoi An.
How much does Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride cost?
+
Prices start at $4 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hoi An usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hoi An is not rushed.
Is Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 45 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hoi An, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hoi An can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hoi An and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Hoi An Lantern Making Class with Hoai River Boat Ride start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hoi An within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hoi An?
+
On Outty we rank every Hoi An experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include HOI AN Hidden Gems in Rural Villages & River Islands PRIVATE TOUR, Coconut Jungle Eco & Hoi An City Tour With Boat Ride, Cooking Class Hoi An:Local Market, Basket Boat, Fishing & Cooking. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hoi An?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hoi An?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
