    Worth the trip!

The bus operator was very engaging and provided a lot of insight during the drive (2 1/2 hours). She was particularly fastidious about ensuring everyone knew where and when to meet at each spot. The waitomo caves were brilliant, but it is dark and you need to be sure-footed as it is a cave with some slippery and uneven surfaces...but the view was spectacular, and the fact that the guide was a lineage of the original indigenous families that discovered and developed the caves. The Hobbiton tour was absolutely amazing (particularly if you're a Lord of the Rings fan!). The young guide gave us insight into 'behind the scenes' information and we were permitted to take lots of pictures, both outside and inside various homes.

Response from the operator: Kia Ora Jurist, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We’re delighted to hear you had such a fantastic day and enjoyed both Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton. We really appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed feedback and appreciate you choosing to travel with us! Many Thanks, Madeline

    Bus tour guide, caves...

Bus tour guide, caves tour guide and Hobbiton tour guide were all great! Trip went smoothly and left and returned on time/early. Great itinerary glad we got to see both Waitomo and Hobbiton in one day as we were only here for a weekend. Included lunch was good too included a side and dessert. Bus was comfy and had wifi.

Response from the operator: Kia Ora Nikini, Thank you for your kind words! It’s wonderful to hear that both your driver and guides left such a lasting impression on you. We’re glad our tour allowed you to make the most of your time and experience two incredible attractions in one day. Wishing you safe travels ahead! Many Thanks, Madeline

    Great Experience!

Loved the whole experience!!! Pick up was easy, the instructions given were easy to follow. The bus driver gave fun facts about the places we drove through, he was fun. We stop off for a potty, coffee, food and souvenirs. The shop right across the street looks like a children’s boutique, but there are great little kick nacks for all ages in there. Our driver when we got to Hobbiton gave us very clear and easy to follow directions. You get to do your souvenir shopping first, but don’t work about lugging your purchases around, our driver came around and collected our stuff and placed it in the bus with our other items. Pick up after the tour was easy, You drive the way back without any stops and drop you off right where you were picked up.

Response from the operator: Kia Ora Mary, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review! We’re delighted to hear that you felt well informed throughout the day, and it’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed visiting both Hobbiton and Waitomo with us. Many Thanks, Madeline

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.

How much does Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Tour from Auckland with Lunch cost?

    +

Prices start at $238 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Tour from Auckland with Lunch take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.

Is Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Tour from Auckland with Lunch worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 846 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Tour from Auckland with Lunch?

Around 296 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Tour from Auckland with Lunch start and how do I get there?

What are the best things to do in Auckland?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Auckland?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Auckland?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
