Definite must do, great guide!
A wonderful enlightening experience! Zamani is so knowledgeable about South African history especially about the Zulu peoples. He made our journey to the game reserve so interesting by telling us about King Shaka. The safari was great!! Even on a hot day we were able to spot 3 of the big 5! The river boat was fantastic, we saw loads of hippo pods. Sadly the crocodiles evaded us, once again due to the heat. If you are doing the day tour from Durban to the park be prepared for a long day but it will be well worth it with Zamani!

The game drive was great....
The game drive was great. Didn"t see a lion or lepard but did see a cheetah! The boat trip was nice, got some great pictures of hippos. It was however a long day.

Lots of fun
This tour was so good as there was a lot of information given historical wise and as well nature wise. At the NP I was able to watch how a lioness had catch a prey. At the wetlands the Hippos had been impressive and how close we got to them. We even saw a small crocodile which is rare on such temperatures. And hypes of birds. As a Kingfisher, Fisheagle, weaver birds, ect.

Excellent tour service, Zamani was awesome
The tour was so great. I had a jam packed day of visiting both parks and my guide Zamani was excellent. During the drive he took the time to teach me about Zulu culture and the history of South Africa. The parks themselves were beautiful and amazing I saw almost all of the big 5 and also some hippos during the relaxing boat tour.

Nature and history, all-in-one
We did this trip with three people. Destinations Hluhluwe Park Since it's two destinations the time in the park (game drive) was limited to 3h. That's not a lot, especially in a park this size and with limited lines of sight due to topography and vegetation. So while we did see quite a few animals this of course can not compete with staying in a park overnight and having an early morning game drive. Wetlands boat trip The boat trip was great, we saw literally dozens of hippos. However there's a catch: these boats approach the hippos quite closely. I would consider this harrasment of the animals and I'm not sure I would do it again. But if you're not considering that than taking this boat tour is a 100% success considering hippos. Tour organisation / Driver Let's get to the heart of the matter: our guide/driver. You can book a similar trips with lots of drivers. But if you're really interested in learning something, then you shouldn't, but book THIS ONE. Not only do the basics check out: Zamani contacted us to arrange pickup, car was adequate and roadworthy, he drove safely, everything on time and as planned. But much more: During the 6-7h we spent driving from and to Durban to the destinations, Zamani made history come alive: He drew us into the fascinating story of the Zulu culture. Being Zulu himself he started off in the distant past in the era of tribes, walked us through the era of king Shaka who united the tribes and built the Zulu kingdom, his successors, the colonial era up to present day. Not only did he know all about it, he presented the history, customs and culture of his people in the most lively, exciting and entertaining way, with lots of factual information as well as colorful stories, explanations, details about habits, culture, customs and background. It's rare to have a guide who is not only familiar with history AND is good in explaining and talking about it AND is a part of it (being Zulu himself) to an extent so he can credibly explain history, customs, culture and habits. We arrived back at the hotel not only having seen animals. We came home with a totally new understanding of the Zulu people, their history, culture and way of thinking. Summary This trip is NOT for you if you want to "see them all" in the Hluhluwe park due to the constraints of time and the long way to get there from Durban. Consider a 2-day trip or a more closeby private park. This trip is ABSOLUTELY for you if you have limited time, but are interested in not only seeing animals, but also being introduced into the culture and history of the Zulu people. It might well be there's no better guide out there for you.

Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Durban.
How much does Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia cost?
+
Prices start at $1950 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Durban usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia take?
+
Plan for about 14 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Durban is not rushed.
Is Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Durban, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 14-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Durban can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Durban and add a light layer if any part of the 14-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park And Isimangaliso Wetlands Park .st Lucia start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Durban within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Durban?
+
On Outty we rank every Durban experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Culture Walking Tour of Durban, Sani Pass & Lesotho 4x4 Experience Day Tour from Durban, Discover Rorkes Drift on our Day Tour from Durban. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Durban?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Durban?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
