    About this experience

Aix is a beautifully preserved city. In fact, its centre hasn’t changed much over the last 300 years, but that doesn't mean it's living in the past. On this self-guided audio tour, you’ll quickly see how the city’s history plays a huge part in the resurgence we’re seeing now in the fortunes of modern Aix. There are lots of elegant buildings and squares along the way, of course, and we’ll explore its 2,000-year-old story together – but there are also bustling markets, expensive clothing stores and some great cake shops. By the end of this tour, you’ll understand how the city’s turbulent past has shaped its present. It’s a fascinating story filled with plague, war, revolution, and fortunes made and lost. The highlights include: • How an archbishop developed an expensive real estate block • Why we remember Paul Cezanne and not Emile Zola • Aix’s very own rags to riches story • How Napoleon shaped Aix’s history And so much more! The tour can be enjoyed on location or virtually.

    Easy peasy

This was a good, low-commitment way to learn more about this city’s history and highlights. It wasn’t comprehensive, but gave a satisfying overview.

    Well worth it!

This was a really, great walking tour. Really appreciated the use of voicemap and the guide was great. very conversational, not too heavy on content - just the perfect amount. Brought us to places that we ended up pausing the tour and spending quite a bit of time, and then pi ked it back up again. Honestly, couldn't have asked for a better walking tour. Wish he did Italy as well!

    Excellent tour. Could thoroughly recommend.

Excellent tour. Worked well. Was travelling solo so this was just right. Could start and stop whenever I wanted.

    Engaging Overview of Aix

A fun, lively and informational tour; well worth doing. The content was engaging and interesting. We had no troubles with the GPS. We did wander off course some but could easily get back to the designated route. My husband’s unhappy review reflects the trouble he had purchasing the tour from the TripAdvisor site; when I bought and he re-bought the tour directly from the VoiceMap app we were successful.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Aix-en-Provence.

How much does History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Aix-en-Provence usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 1.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Aix-en-Provence is not rushed.

Is History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Aix-en-Provence, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Aix-en-Provence can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Aix-en-Provence and add a light layer if any part of the 1.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does History and Renewal in Aix-en-Provence: A Self-Guided Audio Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Aix-en-Provence within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Aix-en-Provence?

    +

On Outty we rank every Aix-en-Provence experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Luberon Villages Half-Day Tour from Aix-en-Provence, Aix-en-Provence Food Tour – A Full French Meal by Do Eat Better, Provence Wineries and Luberon Villages Day Trip from Aix-en-Provence. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Aix-en-Provence?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Aix-en-Provence?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
