Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve
Our trekkers gets picked up from their respective hotels or apartments at 7h15 early morning and drive approximately 30 minutes to Daan Viljoen Game Reserve for hiking. The reserve is located approximately 24 kilometres outside Windhoek in the scenic Khomas Hockland high hill mountains. This is the Rooibos 9 kilometers hiking trail, plus the 3 kilometers Wag-'n-Bietjie Trail, totaling a distance of 12 kilometers half day Hiking. Here travelers can see diverse wildlife and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities - due to the absence of large predators, making it safe for exploration on foot.

Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve
While on Hiking, our travelers can also enjoy viewing some key attraction and activities such as; 1. Wildlife Viewing - giraffe, blue wildebeest, Oryx (gemsbok), kudu, mountain zebra, springbok and other antelopes. 2. Birds Watching - the park is home to over 200 bird species, including endemics like the Monteiro's Hornbill, Ruppell's Parrot, other birds and a dam area with permanent source of water attracting bountiful birdlife. 3. Hiking Trail - travelers can enjoy a guided exploration on well-marked walking paths, learning more about the plants of the reserve including the geology of the Nature Reserve. The hiking trail ends approximately 12h30 in the afternoon. After the hiking, we will walk back to the office and have access to the rest room to freshen up before driving back and arriving to Windhoek approximately 13h30. End of tour. Highly recommend this company and this trip in Namibia
Myself and colleagues took this trip in Namibia on Monday. We were collected from the hotel a little late but traffic was terrible so this is somewhat excused and taken to the reserve. From pick up the guide, Petrus, imparted his local knowledge about culture, history and development of Namibia in answer to our questions which was really illuminating. On arrival we were joined by another guest and set off on a roughly 8 k hike over quite rough terrain with some ups and downs which given the height above sea level should be understood to require a reasonable level of fitness. Petrus tailored the pace to the slowest and was very attentive. What stood out over the course of the next several hours is that this guide knew his stuff. That knowledge came from him having grown up in the country and his knowledge of plants, birds and animals was exhaustive. He never tired of answering many questions and indeed it he made it seem like his privilege to do so. The walk was amazing we saw giraffes,gnu, baboons and many more species and was one of the best trips I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this firm. I do suggest an early start to beat traffic, you need a hat, long trousers and sleeves and insect protection to fully enjoy. Great trip all round.

Perfect for people who want to hike and see animals up close
Petrus was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. I’m glad I booked this hiking trip- came to know about so many additional things that you don’t hear about when you are driving through. Petrus kept explaining how the ecosystem worked with all the plants, animals, and bird. I loved it.

Experience and information combined
Second tour with Kavana Tours. Again amazing. Andre is the coolest guide with a lot of knowledge about animals and plants and how people in the northern villages of namibia benefit from them. Definitely worth doing! Enjoy

Fond memories of a wonderful tour
I had a wonderful hiking tour with Petrus. He is not only a very likeable person, but he is very kind and considerate and made sure I am safe. Also he knows so much about plants, animals, history and culture and shares personal experiences. I learned a lot! Make sure you are wearing sturdy shoes and maybe you will see giraffes, wildebeests, ostriches, many birds and so much more. I highly recommend this tour, it is different to other activities and a great way to experience nature, stretch your legs and get to know a very kind, amazing guide who puts lots of love into his work!

An Amazing Guide Makes All the Difference
Petrus is an outstanding guide and the main reason I would recommend this experience. You can immediately tell how much he loves his culture, the history of Namibia, and the natural environment. Throughout the tour, he shared fascinating insights about the trees, wildlife, and the reserve, always connecting them to his own village and personal experiences. His stories were engaging, thoughtful, and full of wisdom, making the drive so much more than just a game drive. It wasn't a day with lots of wildlife sightings, but I still saw a large herd of antelopes, eight giraffes, a jackal, several wildebeest, and many different bird species. If you have the chance to visit, ask for Petrus. He truly makes the experience special.
