    Amazing Guide in Scotland

I cannot thank Andy and Highland Private Tours enough for the time, care, and thoughtfulness they poured into our family. From the moment we connected with Andy, we felt welcomed, supported, and genuinely cared for. He met us exactly where we were with our needs, our humor, and our laid‑back style. It was as if he instantly figured our family out! He picked up our jetlagged crew at the airport for a wonderful first tour of Edinburgh, and we were so excited to have him again to tour St. Andrews. Andy also arranged for Paul to guide us through the Highlands, and Paul was an absolute treasure with his knowledge, warmth, and quirky charm. What meant the most though was how personal everything was. Andy and Paul shared stories, humor, and real conversation. They made thoughtful accommodations for our mixed group of children, seniors, and some mobility challenges. They never rushed us, and even accepted our invitation to join us for meals, which made us feel like part of the Scotland family. (Especially when we kept running into Andy’s brother!) The teenagers were transformed by the experience. My nephew now insists he is Scottish and plans to live there someday. My daughters connected, laughed, and opened up in ways that were wonderful to see. Andy and Paul made them feel included and valued, and that undoubtedly will leave a lasting impact. They also watched out for my parents with such kindness and professionalism. My parent's apprehension about traveling abroad disappeared almost immediately! Scotland is magical on its own, but Andy and Paul are the reason we truly fell in love with it. We talked about them for the rest of our travels and we are still talking about them weeks after returning home. Fantastic job! Thank you for giving our family a trip we will cherish forever. 100 out of 10!

    Great experience! Highly recommend!!

10 stars in my book ! I strongly suggest booking with Highland Private Tours!! Andy was an awesome tour guide; very knowledgeable, friendly and flexible. My husband, friends and I had a great day touring Edinburgh, learning the history and visiting areas only the locals have knowledge of. We also toured the Highlands, Loch Lomond and St. Andrews. All of these tours were incredible! Andy and his employees are friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely care about making your experience a pleasant one! If we make it back to Scotland, we will absolutely be contacting Andy again!

    Private Highlands experience

What an amazing day with Highland Private Tours and Rowan! From seeing the hairy coos up close, to the breathtaking views at Loch Tulla, every stop felt special. We loved the quick stop in Killin with its beautiful rocky streams, and the late lunch at Mohr84 was absolutely delicious. A brilliant added bonus was stopping at the Skyfall lay-by location — such a cool touch! Rowan was the perfect host throughout: knowledgeable, engaging, full of great banter, and the 80s tunes on the drive back topped the whole day off perfectly. Couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough — a genuine highlight of our trip to Scotland!

    Highland Experience

Great experience with Roland. He showed us a great day up in the Scottish Highlands! He was very entertaining and kept us laughing. I would highly recommend this trip and going with Roland!

Response from the operator: No tour is complete without some impersonations also from Roland. Thank you for your positive review and glad you had a great day.

Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.

How much does Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland cost?

    +

Prices start at $894 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.

Is Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Highlands Private One Day Tour of Scotland start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

    +

On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh, The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Old Town: Historical Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Edinburgh?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
