Best guide and tour we have ever had!

Mario provided an amazing set of tours and was the best guide my family has ever had! We went to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Oplontis over two days. My teenage sons and I love history and Mario's historical and archaeological knowledge and passion surpassed anything we could have imagined. Additionally, he helped arrange transportation, which not only made the whole experience very smooth on some very hot days but also provided lively commentary on everything from history to local food. We are so appreciative of our time with Mario and his team. We just wished we could have had more time learning from them.

Exceptional Service, Unforgettable Tours & a Team You Can Truly Rely On!

This was our second time hiring Mario and the Visit Amalfi Coast team, and once again, the experience was exceptional from beginning to end. This time, we were traveling as a group of 11, with several transfers scheduled, including transportation from Naples and later to Rome. Everything was perfectly organized and always on time. Mario’s drivers and guides are consistently some of the most professional, reliable, and pleasant people we have encountered during our travels in Italy. One of the highlights of our trip was our tour of Herculaneum with Mario himself. We visited during an intense summer heatwave, and our group included kids, teenagers, adults, and seniors—not an easy audience to keep engaged! Yet Mario managed to captivate everyone. His knowledge, enthusiasm, humor, and wonderful personality made the history come alive, and the entire group thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite the heat. What impressed us most, however, was how Mario and his team handled an unexpected emergency. We had to change our flight overnight and leave earlier than planned, which completely changed our transportation arrangements, including the airport we needed to reach. With very little notice, Mario reorganized everything for our group of 11 and made sure we had the transportation we needed the very next morning. During a stressful situation, knowing that we could rely on him was incredibly reassuring. Mario is always pleasant, responsive, accommodating, and genuinely committed to taking care of his guests. His transfers are punctual, his vehicles and service are excellent, and the professionalism of his entire team is outstanding. I have recommended Visit Amalfi Coast to several friends over the years, and every single person who has used them has also had a five-star experience. After two wonderful experiences of our own, I can recommend Mario and his team without hesitation. When we return to the Amalfi Coast, there is no question who we will call. Grazie mille, Mario, for once again taking such wonderful care of our family and friends!

Herculaneum through the eyes of those who truly know it

We chose the private tour of Herculaneum with pickup and drop-off directly at our hotel in Naples, and the entire experience was impeccable from start to finish. Diego came to pick us up on time in a brand-new Mercedes vehicle that was spacious, perfectly clean, and equipped with air conditioning. He was extremely kind and thoughtful, helping us at every moment and making us feel at ease right away. For us, it was truly pleasant to be able to visit Herculaneum without worrying about traffic, parking, tickets, or the organization of the transfer. Upon arrival, we met Mario, our private guide, and from that moment on, Herculaneum literally came to life. Mario does not just list dates and information: thanks to his archaeological training, his passion, and his deep knowledge of the site, he made us observe every building and every detail through the eyes of someone who truly studies and loves archaeology. He helped us imagine the houses inhabited, the streets traveled by the ancient inhabitants, the shops, the baths, and the daily life of the city before the eruption. His explanations are clear, engaging, and never heavy. He knew how to adapt the pace of the visit to our needs, allowing us all the necessary time and making us always feel looked after. We also greatly appreciated the completely private and all-inclusive formula: transport from our hotel, a top-level vehicle, entrance tickets, and a private guide. No lines, no stress, and no wasted time. Herculaneum is an extraordinary place, but visiting it with Mario gave it a completely different meaning. We did not simply see an archaeological site: for a few hours, it felt like we were entering the life of a real Roman city. An experience organized with great professionalism, but also with that personal care and hospitality that only a local business can offer. We recommend this tour without hesitation to anyone who wishes to discover Herculaneum in an authentic, in-depth, and comfortable way.

Lesser known, but not less than Pompeii

For our port stop in Naples, we (parents & two teens) chose to tour Herculaneum as most of us had previously toured Pompeii. The communication, service and quality of this transfer & tour was exceptional. Our guide Mario was personable, knowledgeable and engaging. Herculaneum is an exceptional site with exceptional stories and, in my opinion, superior to Pompeii.

Response from the operator: Dear Holly, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It was a real pleasure meeting you and your family, and I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed discovering Herculaneum together. Many travelers automatically choose Pompeii because it's the more famous archaeological site, but as you discovered, Herculaneum offers an entirely different perspective on the Roman world. Thanks to the unique circumstances of the eruption of AD 79, many organic materials, wooden structures, and even everyday objects have survived in extraordinary condition, allowing visitors to experience an incredibly intimate glimpse into ancient Roman life. Thank you also for your kind words about my guiding. As a licensed Italian National Tour Guide with an academic background in archaeology, my goal is always to transform archaeological remains into real stories about the people who once lived there. I believe that understanding the history behind what you see makes every stone, house, and fresco much more meaningful. We're also very pleased that you appreciated our communication and organization from start to finish. We believe that an exceptional experience begins long before the tour itself. Thank you again for choosing our family business. We hope to welcome you back to Italy one day—there are still many fascinating archaeological treasures waiting to be discovered! Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer cost?

    +

Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Herculaneum Private Guided Tour with round Trip private Transfer start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

    +

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
