Unforgettable Experience
What an adventure back in time. We did the private tour of Herculaneum, Pompeii and Paestum with Francesco and team and it was well worth it. The day was long, with a 6:30AM pick up at our hotel in central Rome. The car was very luxurious and very roomy, which made being in the car for fairly long drives much easier. The early morning departure was a smart move since we arrived at Herculaneum and met our private guide, Romolo, before many other people had arrived. It made walking through the magnificent site so much more enjoyable, since it felt like the entire place was ours alone. Romolo was knowledgeable, funny and very accommodating with our endless questions. The tour length was fully in our control, and we made the most of our time with Romolo. With the same guide, we transferred over to Pompeii. Having the same guide at both locations proved really helpful, as he was able to compare and contrast the two sites. Unlike Herculaneum, Pompeii was jam-packed with people, so having someone able to navigate the massive site and tailor our experience to where the crowds were or weren’t made it way more enjoyable than if we had been on our own or in a large group with a set agenda. After a quick lunch at Pompeii, we headed a bit farther south, about three hours south of Rome, to Paestum, which neither of us was familiar with prior to booking the tour. What an unexpected experience. Unlike the Mount Vesuvius eruption sites, the archaeological site of Paestum was 500-600 years old and featured Greek architecture. Our guide, Angelo, was passionate about telling the story of the ancient civilization and how it thrived but ultimately became a victim of time. The three Greek temples were amazing to experience. One thing to note about this tour is that you’ll be spending a lot of time in the car. Our drive back to Rome after Paestum was three hours, but, in all honesty, it was worth it. And when we were in the car, the conversation with Francesco and our driver was light and enjoyable. All in all, a very long day but highly recommended.
Response from the operator: It was a full day inside the Roman and Greek history! We really thank you for this review because it is very accurate and make our team so proud of our job!

Our Incredible Tour of Ancient Lost Cities
Everything about the private guided tour was perfect and it was a wonderful day exploring 3 ancient cities with the best tour guide and driver we have ever met!! Our tour guide Rossana and our driver Luigi picked us up right on time at our hotel in a comfortable van with a/c. They were both excited to meet us and spend the day with us!! I loved that Rossana asked us what we were interested in and why we took this tour so she could help tailor the tour to best meet our needs and help us to have the best possible experience. Rossana provided us with water bottles and hand sanitizer and made us feel comfortable right away as we drove 2 hours to our first stop, Herculaneum. During the drive, Rossana told us about the itinerary for the day and about our tour guides at each archeological site (Mario and Paulo, who were also wonderful!!). Rossana is extremely knowledgeable about Roman History and the 3 ancient cities we saw. She gave us a brief overview of each city, the history, the significance and the geography because we were not familiar with Herculaneum or Paestum. When we arrived at each location we got VIP treatment!! Rossana had Luigi drop us off at the main entrance, had our tickets ready for us, and she called ahead to make sure that our site guide was there to meet us!! Everything ran smoothly because Rossana is so organized!! Paolo and Mario gave excellent tours because Rossana definitely knew how to tailor our visit. My son is a student of ancient history and Rossana let Mario & Paolo know that my son wanted an extremely detailed explanation about the ancient history at each site and that I was interested in the architecture and that my husband wanted to see everything interesting and unusual from brothels to bath houses!! Rossana accompanied us on all 3 tours and shared her vast knowledge and expertise on each tour to supplement the site guides!! She was kind and helpful and made sure we didn't miss anything!! Rossana was also kind enough to take endless pictures of my family and to help answer all our questions after each tour ended and we went to our next destination. We had an hour of driving in between the stops and Rossana kept the conversation flowing with so much interesting information that time flew!! Rossana also was very patient and she answered my many questions about the geography of Italy because I am unfamiliar with Pompeii and Napoli and I had never even heard of Paestum which is near the Amalfi Coast. We were all so impressed with Rossana's expert knowledge...not just of Rome, ancient Rome and all the archeological sites that we visited but also of all of the regions that we traveled through during our all day tour!! We also truly appreciated Rossana's ability to help us to visualize these ancient cities as they once were. She provided interesting background information and very specific details to truly enhance every part of our tour and make it so very special for us!! An extra bonus was that Rossana also recommended a wonderful restaurant across from the Pompeii archeological site!! We invited Rossana and Luigi to join us for lunch and she helped us to order delicious, authentic regional Neopolitan dishes that we had never tried before and wouldn't have ordered if she had not recommended them!! Rossana also made sure to let the owner know that I have food allergies and asked him to make special dishes just for me to accommodate my allergies!! I have never met a tour guide who was so caring and so concerned about my well being!! Rossana is the best tour guide that we have ever met!! The drive home was 4 hours home due to terrible traffic. Luigi is an expert driver and did everything he could to make our trip as safe and as smooth as possible while Rossanna continued to answer all of our many questions all the way back to Rome!! All of us loved this tour and that is thanks to our incredible tour guide Rossana and our driver Luigi who made it extra special for all of us, and especially for my son!! We would highly recommend this tour and especially this tour guide and driver to others because we loved every minute!!

Great for the archaeology/history lovers!
If you're a lover of ancient Greek and Roman history, you'll love this tour. You visit three major sites with a guide in one day. Yes, it is a long day, but we loved every minute of it. Our guide Teresa and our driver Ottavio were terrific. Both very friendly and Teresa was really knowledgeable. You could tell she really knew about each site, Herculaneum, Pompeii and Paestum and was passionate about each one. Our guide and driver were accomodating for the long day including bathroom breaks, stops to buy water, pictures, and time in the museum at Paestum and even a quick stop at an ATM in the shops near Paestum. It was particularly hot when we went and although we are not totally out of shape, we do live in climate control in the US and she was mindful of when we looked overheated and needed a short break to sit for a moment or while climbing up a hill. In addition, Rossana arranged the tour and was friendly and helpful and receptive to all of our needs/wants for the tour. She was always in communication and always available whenever I had a question. All around great day and I would highly recommend for those interested in such sites.
Response from the operator: We are incredibly grateful that you took the time out to leave us this note. Our company values put customer satisfaction as top priority and we are committed to our customers. It is customers like you that make our job wonderful. We look forward to serving you again. Arrivederci!

SUPERB, FASCINATING & EDUCATIONAL
Our trip in May 2019 far exceeded our expectations with professional knowledgeable and friendly guides who accommodated all of our requests. Finally creating a slide show and realizing that we managed to see most if not all of the main attractions at three major sites in just one day. Impressive. Though Pompeii is the most famous, Herculaneum is not to be missed. Paestum, both Greek and Roman, is certainly the most fascinating from a historical and archaeological perspective. Just contacted the owner to identify an object in a photo and received an immediate answer. Impressive though typical of the service we received.
Response from the operator: Thanks for the awesome review! We work hard to meet expectations like yours, and we’re happy to hear we hit the mark for you. Come back and see us soon. Arrivederci!

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch cost?
+
Prices start at $320 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Herculaneum, Pompeii & Paestum Private Tour from Rome with lunch start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
