About this experience
Herculaneum was an ancient Roman town, situated below Mount Vesuvius, and submerged under a torrent of mud and lava after the volcano erupted in 79 A.D. The buildings have been so well preserved that you can walk down the streets pretty much exactly as the Romans would have done over 2000 years ago! There is still original timber in the buildings and clay pots stored as they would have been at the time of the eruption. Together with your guide, you will visit many of the most important sites, public baths with their well-preserved frescoes and mosaics, shops and the gymnasium. A tour, of possibly one of the best preserved examples of a Roman residential town in the world, brought to life years of study and knowledge to archaeologists.

Archeological Park of Herculaneum
Born in the archaic age and initially affected by an indigenous settlement, the city was subsequently exposed to Samnite, Greek, Etruscan influences, up to the predominant Roman presence, whose civilization is today witnessed by the exceptional state of preservation. Located on a volcanic plateau, overlooking the sea, Herculaneum, like the other Vesuvian cities, was covered by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.C. whose products, settling, buried it until it reached a thickness of twenty-three meters. The city was brought to light during the excavations conducted by the Bourbons.

Booked this trip on the day as recommended by the guide next to the station. Go every Monday at 9:36, meet at 9am and buy your ticket that includes the train (1hour) guided tour and entrance, so everything in. There's a bit of walking but not much, but it was 31 degrees so warm. Josephina, our guide was ace, looked after her guests on and off the train, walking, talking in the shade and very personable. Great knowledge and story filling as we walked about and you were guided as everyone looked and asked questions. Great history unveiled before your eyes. 2 hours round the rooms, house, spas, toilettes and bakeries understanding the history and engineering of the Romans. Have a beer or food walking back up the incline and catch a train from platform 3 which is every 20 minutes. Our one back didn't have air con so take water and drink beer when home.

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Herculaneum Half day by minibus: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.
How much does Herculaneum Half day by minibus cost?
+
Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Herculaneum Half day by minibus take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.
Is Herculaneum Half day by minibus worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Herculaneum Half day by minibus?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Herculaneum Half day by minibus suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Herculaneum Half day by minibus?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Herculaneum Half day by minibus start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Naples?
+
On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Naples?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Naples?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
