An area of natural beauty spoilt by pollution.
The cruise ship & our room was very nice, spacious. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The was no information about the scenery either in the rooms or from the staff. There was a lot of made rubbish floating in the water all the time & a fair amount of oil sitting on top of the water from the vast amount of other cruise boats in the area. One of the options was to go swimming, no thank you!! The excursion to go kayaking or go in a small rowing boat to see the dark & light caves was rushed & overcrowded as a lot of the other cruise boats were doing the same thing at the same time. I was very let down by the rubbish floating in the water. We did a 1 Night cruise, that was long enough. Come on Ha Long Bay, clean the rubbish up! It really detracts from the beauty.

Heritage Cruise Line - “Violet”
We booked a 2 night luxury cruise on the “Violet” - 6 cabins. Big mistake. The cruise lines are not equipped to offer a 2 night itinerary since most visitors book one night only. They want us to leave the ship at 8am on the 2nd morning, have breakfast on a lesser priced sister ship, lunch somewhere else followed by a forced tour - an absence of 61/2 hrs from the ship. The reason: ship returns to the dock and picks up next group of one day tourists which you will then meet later the 2nd day. We refused to leave the ship and had to suffer thru deck cleaning, rooms cleaning, return to the tourists docks, Wait for new guests etc. And repeat the 2nd afternoon same as the first. This is not isolated we learned - And by the way, there are now over 400 ships in the bay - making it difficult to feel the romance.

Halong bay amazing - trip a bit manic
Halong Bay must be one of the most beautiful places to visit once you get away from the city/port area and out in the bay itself. The rock outcrops are amazing and some of the bays, caves and climbs well worth doing. The downside is that all the boats seem to follow the same pattern so places can be crowded at the times the boat staff prefer to be there. Some of the boats are a bit dated and not brilliantly maintained or have good facilities. We were on the Royal Palace, 4 star apparently, which really could do with a refit. Staff though were great and catering good so one could ignore the non-functional windows, broken furnishings/fittings, non fitting cabin doors, high bar prices etc. Beautiful old boat in need of a bit more care. Evening entertainment karaoke! Not my cup of tea really but top deck enabled a more relaxed area albeit with occasional non-tunes from below. Overall a good experience but could easily have been much better (or worse). You need to do this to see the scenery but keep your expectations of everything else low and you will not be disappointed.

Why this scores 52
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.
How much does Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury cost?
+
Prices start at $185 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury take?
+
Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.
Is Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 48-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Halong Bay Overnight Cruise 2Day,1 Night with 4 Star Luxury start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hanoi?
+
On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hanoi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hanoi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
