Waited an hour for the tour guide to turn up and half a day became 1hr 45mins

We were picked up at our hotel by Pullmans before lunch so couldn’t eat. We then had to wait an hour at the park for a separate guide who had been with two other groups in Mombasa to turn up and show us around. When I complained about this upon his eventual arrival I was told we had to wait for these two other groups to have lunch. So he wasn’t late - this had been the planned schedule by Pullmans all along - for us to sit around twiddling our thumbs, hungry and in the heat for an hour (there is nowhere at the park to buy food or drink). Clearly Pullman’s is combining groups to maximise profits. The guide was defensive and rude when I complained, chanting “hakuna matata” at me to try to placate me. Once in the park we had to wait even longer for the two other groups to use the facilities because of course they had had the privilege of having a leisurely lunch before they arrived. Once the guide started taking it was clear from the start he had no idea what he was talking about - told us a giant tortoise was 250-300 years old -really?!? Later on he suddenly exclaimed “quick we’re going to miss the hippos being fed”, then immediately stopped to start telling us about various trees. At that point I realised I was better off walking around the park alone and the only thing Pullmans were good for was the ride home. This is not a half day tour - it’s a 1hr 45 minute tour (and we spent nearly 4 hours getting there and back). I was told our guide wasn’t late, he was accommodating the other two groups - so in my view that’s false advertising. One hour 45mins is not half a day. In all honesty, if you’re doing a safari just give this place a miss, it’s not worth it.

In all I had a great holiday, met nice people, visited notable places with the help of the indigenes .

The favourite part of my holiday to Mombasa was my visit to Haller Park, it was a dream come true as I feed the Giraffes and took pictures with them, just like I had always wished for. Thanks to one of the tour guides of the park who took us round and helped in taking pictures.

Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mombasa.

How much does Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa cost?

    +

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mombasa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mombasa is not rushed.

Is Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 46 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Mombasa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mombasa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mombasa and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mombasa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Mombasa?

    +

On Outty we rank every Mombasa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mombasa City Tour, Walking Tour Through Old Town Mombasa and Fort Jesus, Visit to Fort Jesus and the Old Town of Mombasa. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mombasa?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mombasa?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa?

    +

Included: Hotel pickup and drop-off. Not included: Food and drinks; Gratuities; and Souvenir photos (available to purchase). Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does Haller Park Half-Day Tour from Mombasa include hotel pickup?

    +

Yes, pickup is offered, or you can meet at the start point instead from 3 listed pickup locations in and around Mombasa. Be ready about 30 minutes before the start time.
