What you get

    About this experience

From the busy streets of Naples to the top of Italy’s most famous volcano, this half-day Vesuvius tour is an absolute must-see when visiting the region. Mount Vesuvius is known worldwide for its devastating eruption of 79 AD, which destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and still dominates the skyline to this day. Following a late morning pickup from a centrally located meeting point, you will be whisked out of the city where you can enjoy a light lunch with the group before embarking on your mountain climb. Then, set off on the 500m hike to the summit. Once at the top you can follow the trail around the impressive crater, enjoy spectacular views of the Bay of Naples to the east and west, and stare down into the depths of the slumbering volcano. If crater access tickets are unavailable, the tour will still run up to 1,000 meters above sea level to enjoy the scenery. No full or partial refunds will be provided in this case.

    Unforgettable private tour to Vesuvius

Gretta and Mario have made our day wonderful at Vesuvius. Gretta made our wait for the rest of the people who were in Pompeii a fantastic moment to introduce us to the craft of cameos. At lunch, she introduced us to the tradition of the Neapolitan horn. During the journey, we enjoyed good music related to Vesuvius, Naples, and Italy, while she brought us closer to the legends surrounding the mountain we were going to climb, in excellent Spanish. And she gave us wonderful recommendations for future excursions for when we return!

Response from the operator: Estimado/a, ¡Muchísimas gracias por compartir esta maravillosa reseña!

    I went to Mt. Vesuvius,...

I went to Mt. Vesuvius, our driver Ivan was SO lovely :) however there was a big issue with tickets at mt. Vesuvius… I understood I had to get mine but the 2 people in my group had no ticket even though it was in their price? It made me nervous to travel with Viator company again. Ivan was lovely and tried to help us!

Response from the operator: Hi Fiona, thank you for your review. We’re truly sorry for the issue with the Vesuvius tickets and understand your frustration. Ivan informed us about the situation, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact us directly — we’ll be happy to review the case and find a fair solution. We’re also glad to hear you appreciated Ivan’s kindness and professionalism. Staff Napoli City Vision

    Better to arrange yourself

A not very good experience. We got more useful info from the taxi driver, before he picked the "guide" up. Itinerary was reversed, so lunch was postponed until after climbing Vesuvius rather than on the way as advertised. This messed up our evening as lunch wasn't finished until 1530. We expected an English speaking guide on Vesuvius, but he left us at the entrance, so we had no guide. We had to buy tickets in advance ourselves, which we booked for the time slot according to Viator. This turned out to be too late, so we had yo wait 20 minutes at entrance, which cost us 20 minutes at the top. The taxi driver and the pizza were great, but everything else was a shambles. Better to go to Ercanolo Scavi on the train for 5 euros and pick up one of the shuttle busses!

Response from the operator: Dear David, We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide smooth and enjoyable tours, and it’s disappointing to learn that there were several issues with the itinerary and the guiding service. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will certainly look into how we can improve these aspects for future guests. We also regret any inconvenience caused by the timing of the lunch and the delays at the summit. We appreciate you highlighting the positives, like the taxi driver and the pizza, and we will work to ensure that future tours are more organized and aligned with what is advertised. We hope you'll consider visiting us again and giving us the chance to provide you with a better experience. Kind regards, Staff Napoli City Vision

    Aldo and the volcano.

Aldo has an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of Naples that he freely shared. Hearing him talk about it as an understandably proud Neapolitan made the experience that much more enjoyable. He included a lot of extra sights and insights. Note, if he offers an umbrella, take it!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We’re thrilled you enjoyed Aldo’s deep knowledge and passion for Naples—it’s what makes our tours special. His extra sights and insights truly bring the city to life. And yes, his umbrella tip is legendary! We’re proud to have Aldo on our team and delighted your experience was so memorable.

This tour was a great way...

This tour was a great way to spend a few hours while in Naples. Pickup from my hotel was on time and guide provided great narration and overview of the day while enroute to meet the rest of my group and start the tour. I then met our guide Christian and he explained in detail the timing and itinerary for the day. The included pizza lunch was yum, and the view over Naples from the restaurant was stunning. Our group then continued the drive up the mountain with great narration along the way. Our guide double checked with each of us that we had the correct tickets to enter the park so we’d be able to breeze in. Christian explained how the hike would be and assured us it was manageable as the whole trail is clearly marked. Turns out he was right and while it’s a little steep in the beginning once you reach the top the views are incredible. Once our hike was finished it was a quick drive back to the city and dropped me back at the hotel. Loved that Christian offered suggestions for restaurants and other sites to see with my days in Naples.

Response from the operator: Dear Customer, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your day with us in Naples and that everything — from the hotel pickup to the final drop-off — went smoothly. Christian will be so pleased to know his narration, itinerary guidance, and hiking tips helped make your experience both enjoyable and stress-free. We’re glad you loved the pizza lunch and the stunning views from the restaurant, as well as the unforgettable scenery from the top of the trail. It’s always our goal to make our guests feel cared for from start to finish, and we’re happy Christian’s suggestions added extra value to your time in Naples. We hope to welcome you back soon for more adventures with Napoli City Vision! Warm regards, The Napoli City Vision Team

Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch cost?

    +

Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Half-Day Vesuvius Drive and Summit Hike from Naples with Lunch start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

    +

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
