Madu River Safari by Buddhi
Explore the Madu River Boat Safari (International Ram Sa Wetland) The Madu River Safari(Mangroves) area surrounding the river are all swampy marshlands covered in mangrove forests. The forest covers over 61 hectares, that is over 150 acres. 14 of the 24 species of mangroves are found in this area. It is interesting to note that mangroves play a huge part in preventing erosion. The value of the mangroves was understood in December 2004, during the devastating tsunami, when forest acted as a natural barrier protecting the region. The large growths of mangrove trees have caused a chain of ecological gain. The soil protected by the mangrove trees is very fertile. This has caused a rich growth of other wetland plants. Over 300 species, 19 of which are endemic, have been discovered so far.

Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project
Kosgoda is famous for its sea turtle conservation project operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1988 to protect Sri Lanka’s turtles from extinction. Since then it has released about 3.5 million baby turtles into the wild. The hatchery pays fishermen for eggs that they collect at night along the long sandy beach. Although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs (mostly green turtles) can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year. The hatchery buries the eggs in sand, and when they hatch around 50 days later the baby turtles are released into the sea at night. Only about one in 1,000 turtles survives to maturity. kosgoda turtle hatchery also has tanks for injured or disabled turtles, including albino turtles that would not survive in the wild. The beach of Hikkaduwa is situated 98 km from Colombo towards the south of Sri Lanka. This fun coastal town, 14 km away from Galle was the first (1960’s) of Sri Lanka’s beautiful beaches to be discovered by tourists. Safe and caring driver in Hikkaduwa
A big shoutout to Chaminda from TravelHIKKA Tours who drove my friends and I to Bentota and back to Hikkaduwa for the day. The car was immaculately clean, he was punctual and didn’t complain about the small, back roads that needed to be navigated to visit Geoffrey Bawa’s fabulous house and garden ‘Lunuganga’ and his brother Bravia’ garden ‘Brief’. Most importantly he was an excellent driver and was very helpful and caring when one of my friends became sick. I wouldn’t hesitate to use his services again.
Response from the operator: Dear Madam Dilly, Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience with TravelHIKKA Tours. We are thrilled to hear that you and your friends had a wonderful day trip to Bentota and Hikkaduwa with us. We're glad to know that the cleanliness and punctuality of our service met your expectations. I takes great pride in providing a comfortable and enjoyable journey for our guests. Your compliment about My driving skills and i care for your friend who became sick means a lot to us. We strive to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests, and it's heartening to that i was able to assist during that time. We appreciate your recommendation and look forward to the opportunity of serving you again in the future. Safe travels! Warm regards, Chaminda TravelHIKKA Tours

Prices start at $200 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hikkaduwa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half Day Private Exploration of the Beauty of Southern Coast take?

Is Half Day Private Exploration of the Beauty of Southern Coast worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hikkaduwa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half Day Private Exploration of the Beauty of Southern Coast?
+

Is Half Day Private Exploration of the Beauty of Southern Coast suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half Day Private Exploration of the Beauty of Southern Coast?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hikkaduwa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hikkaduwa and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half Day Private Exploration of the Beauty of Southern Coast start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hikkaduwa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hikkaduwa?
+
On Outty we rank every Hikkaduwa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 7 Day Private Sri Lanka Tour With Star Hotels, Safari & Ella, Kayaking Adventure on serene waters through mangroves, Akurala, Sinharaja Rainforest Tour - Hotel Pick-up and Transfers Including. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hikkaduwa?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hikkaduwa?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
