What you get
About this experience
The Jewish community in India is comprised of 03 distinct groups: Bene Israel, The Malabar Jewish community and the Iraqi Jews. Their history dates back to over 2000 years ago where there is evidence listed on the cemeteries in Hebrew. Today the community has shrunk considerably; however, there is a large community still active to share the history with us. This program combines both Jewish histories (as we go the beaten track to explore this remarkable culture) with the traditional Indian temples and palaces through the land of the Maharajas.

The Nariman House, designated as a Chabad house (Hebrew: בית חב"ד) is a five-storey landmark in the Colaba area of South Mumbai. The building was home to a Chabad house, a Hasidic Jewish outreach centre run by Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, who had owned the building since around 2006. The centre had an educational center, a synagogue, offered drug prevention services and a hostel. The building was one of the sites of the November 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks and six of its occupants, including Holtzberg and his wife, who was six months pregnant, were killed. Their two-year-old son Moshe survived the attack after being rescued by his Indian nanny, Sandra Samuel.

5 star!!!
We LOVED this tour! It was so fascinating to learn about the Mumbai Jewish community and its rich history. I really enjoyed meeting the people who still work at the remaining historic synagogues of Mumbai and everything they are doing to keep them running! Sameer was the perfect tour guide and also gave us a lot of interesting information about Mumbai in general as well as the Jewish history. I highly recommend this tour!

Great tour, exceptional guide!!!
A friend I met on my tour to India had booked this wonderful half day experience and invited me to go with her. Sameer (Shreeji Tours n Travels) was an exceptional guide with exceptional knowledge about everything in Mumbai, not just the Jewish temples and other sights we visited. If I had not been on a tour, I would have taken more of his of Sameer's tours in Mumbai and the greater area. He is as good as you can get!!!

The perfect Jewish heritage day trip
Sameer’s tour was excellent. My daughter and I always try to connect with our Jewish heritage, and this was the best tour we have taken to date. The synagogues were beautiful and we got to meet and speak with two members and officers of the synagogues. Aaron’ grandfather was instrumental in keeping the synagogue thriving and he showed us the Ark and the congregations various to Torahs. He was so gray to talk to. The other individual also showed us the six Torahs, all Sephardic style and explained the history of his over 100 year old congregation. He also chanted Torah for us to demonstrate his fluency and his chanting abilities. Finally we ended our tour at Chabad of Mumbai, where in 2008 terrorists killed over 200 people in various locations in Mumbai, including 6 people at the Chabad house. Three floors are dedicated museums and there is a charming kosher restaurant on the 2nd floor. We had lox on challa and chicken soup. It was terrific. Sameer explained the history of the synagogues as well as the history of the Jews of Mumbai. Extremely knowledgeable and very gracious. His tour even picked us up at our hotel which was in North Mumbai, no other Jewish heritage tour would do that. This a must for any Jew and this is the tour to take. 6 out of 5 stars.

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mumbai.
How much does Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $86 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mumbai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mumbai is not rushed.
Is Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mumbai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mumbai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mumbai and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half-Day Mumbai Jewish Heritage Private Guided Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mumbai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mumbai?
+
On Outty we rank every Mumbai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Elephanta Caves & Island Guided Private Tour, Dharavi Slum Tour, Mumbai: Dharavi Slum & Dhobi Ghat Laundry Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mumbai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mumbai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
