About this experience
This is a half-day rental. It is not a guided tour. We are on the bay, not the Gulf. The water is much calmer. Your destination is about a mile away. John's Pass has sandbars, islands, dolphins, manatees, and more. It's a popular place to paddle. Beach your kayak or sup on the sandbar and soak up the sun. Search for the mangrove tunnel. Watch ships sail under the span and work on your tan. You don't have to meet us at a slippery public boat ramp! We have free parking and a private floating dock. Our shop called The BoatDega has snacks, drinks, and restrooms. We can set you up with a cooler and fill it with ice. You also have the option to reserve an Easy Snorkel. Swim in the shallow water by the sandbar and search for seashells.

Amazing experience
This was our first time booking with this company and it definitely will not be the last. I tried a stand up paddle board for the first time. Definitely fun. The kayaks were awesome too. Much smaller and faster than the other company we’ve booked with in the past. We do a 4 hour unguided trip every year…we’ll for sure use this one next year.
Response from the operator: The stand up padleboards are not as hard to use as people tend to think they are. The Pelican kayaks are super lightweight and track pretty well. Thanks for coming out and leaving a review. See ya next year.

Fun activity
It was nice to go at your own pace. Make sure to pack water and a snack. supper nice staff and cute doggie !
Response from the operator: The self-guided rentals are ideal. Set your own pace. When Chewy, the dock dog, gets a mention, he gets a treat. Thank's for the review.

Highly recommend!
Thw staff here are very accommodating, laid back, and knowledgeable. The location was perfect and not hectic busy so the process was easy. They even have dry bags and phone bags among other things for purchase.
Response from the operator: Laid-back paddle board and kayak rentals. That is exactly what we are. Thank you!

Half Day Kayak Rental is a Great Flexible Little Adventure
The Half Day Kayak Rental from Mad Beach Paddlesports was just right for a little adventure on the water and a different look at John's Pass. The Penguin kayaks were stable and tracked well, although the seats were a little tough on the lower back. The trip through the canals was relaxing, and we took our time exploring John's Pass Island and Eleanor Island. Saw a pod of dolphins feeding just off the sandbar, in addition to an osprey catching fish. It was a beautiful day, and the John's Pass party boats were out in force. Highly recommend this trip since the duration and the pace of the trip is completely in your control.
Response from the operator: Wow. Sounds like you got to see some cool wildlife. Sitting in the kayaks for a while can definitely cause some lower back discomfort. We have some seat pad inserts which can help with that. Thanks for the detailed review.

Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for St Petersburg.
How much does Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel cost?
+
Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in St Petersburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in St Petersburg is not rushed.
Is Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in St Petersburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in St Petersburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in St Petersburg and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half Day Kayak Rental to John's Pass Sandbar & Mangrove Tunnel start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central St Petersburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in St Petersburg?
+
St Petersburg pairs beach time with a dense arts district: Dali Museum entry, mural walking tours, clear-kayak paddles through mangrove tunnels and boat runs out to Egmont Key and Shell Key. On Outty we rank every St Petersburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Clear Kayak Tour of Shell Key Preserve and Tampa Bay Area, St. Petersburg Jungle Prada Site History Tour, Island Sunset and Skyway Light Show - 3hr Boat Cruise in St. Pete. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit St Petersburg?
+
October to April, before the summer heat and afternoon storms. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in St Petersburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
