    Herculaneum tour with lunch

Very interesting tour thru Herculaneum, learning about what living there was like before Vesuvius erupted. A fair amount of walking, but it was mostly on pretty even ground, and considerably less walking than we did on any other day in Naples. One thing that was a bit confusing at first was that we went from Naples to Pompeii for lunch, and then back to Herculaneum. It turns out, and we weren’t aware of this at first, that there is a whole day option that covers Pompeii in the morning and Herculaneum in the afternoon. So we went past Herculaneum to Pompeii in order to meet up with the rest of the group that did the full day tour for lunch.

    Hurculaneum has to be seen!

Sensational tour. We’ve done Pompeii and loved it but Hurculaneum was on another level. So well preserved, it really has to be seen. Kudos to our driver Rafael who got us there and back safely in the crazy Napoli traffic and to our guide, Alessandro (Alex) who was a font of knowledge. Very professional.

    Excellent site - well preserved!

We joined another group that had visited Pompei earlier in the morning. Had a nice lunch with a group of others and the drove to Herculean. Amazing site well preserved able to see very good buildings, floors, and a preserved boat.

    Wonderful tour, driver and guide!

Our driver, Pasquali and our guide, Alessandro were wonderful! Alessandro added more to our experience than we were expecting. After the tour he walked us into the termini station and helped us buy tickets from the machine.

    Better preserved site than Pompei

Now if you had to choose between Pompei and Herculaneum, having been to both, I would choose the later. Pompei is more famous and really a fantastic site to explore. I'd recommend though you go to Pompei if you could only do one site as it's known worldwide. So much better preserved with a smaller footprint, I enjoyed Herculaneum more so. I was picked up at the cruise terminal in Naples with a 45 minute drive to Pompei where I joined others for the lunch portion of the tour. After an authentic Italian three course meal, we were taken to Herculaneum which was about 15 minutes away. There we were given headsets as this is self guided which is actually fine. We had about 90 or so minutes to explore. We could have used maybe another 30 minutes, but 90 was fine as this is a small site to explore - much smaller than Pompei. Afterward, we boarded our mini van and were driven back directly to Naples in about 25 minutes to drop me at the cruise terminal. So convenient and easy. A great day in the Naples area.

Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch cost?

    +

Prices start at $104 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Half Day Excursion to Herculaneum from Naples with Lunch start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

    +

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
