About this experience
Are you tired of city noise and a fast-paced lifestyle? Then we would highly recommend you to visit this tour on one of your first days in the Netherlands! We believe, that blooming gardens, old wooden houses, cozy green alleys, and fabulous apple pie served for lunch on the banks of a canal overgrown with apple trees and hydrangeas are one of the best medicines against urban bustle! We will meet at the Amsterdam Centraal Station, from where we will take a bus to ride to those fabulous towns - Edam and Volendam. The travel time takes no more than 20 minutes. Strolling along incredibly beautiful streets with a view of canals, infinite fields with wooden houses, farms, and wild swans. The best day in Dutch villages
We always wanted to see not only cities in the Netherlands, but also villages. One day we went with a wonderful guide, Ekaterina, to Edam and Volendam. We were doubly lucky - the weather was wonderful, and this day coincided with the celebration of King's Day in the country. We saw many cheerful residents and festively decorated streets. I really love leisurely walks, when you can stop for coffee at any time or linger in a particularly liked place. Ekaterina flexibly adjusted to our wishes, but at the same time conscientiously "worked out" the entire informational part of the excursion. We learned a lot about the traditions and cultural characteristics of the inhabitants of Dutch villages, many facts about agriculture, cheese making and history. We were amazed by the attitude of the country's residents to cows and other livestock and their real care for them. We had two stops - one in Edam for coffee and homemade apple pie made according to an old recipe (mmm... very tasty!), the second in Vollendam for lunch in a wonderful restaurant, which is famous for its smokehouse. Many thanks to Ekaterina and the tour organizers!
Response from the operator: Dear Anna, Thank you so much for this amazing review — it really made our day! Ekaterina was so touched. She asked me to send you a huge hello and warmest hugs. Your manager Sergey also says a big thank you! We're really happy you enjoyed your tour, "Your Own Holland. Edam and Volendam: The Charms of Rural Life," and it's especially great that you got to experience King's Day and its festive atmosphere. Edam and Volendam truly are Amsterdam’s most picturesque surroundings, with their cheese, herring, eel, clogs, and boat sails — we’re so glad you got to enjoy all of it! Anna, we'd love to see you again, whether in Amsterdam or any of the other countries we work in — the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Morocco, Hungary, or Serbia. And don’t forget, after your first tour you now have a 10% discount on all your future tours with us. Hope to see you soon! Warmest wishes, Anastasia

Waterland Experience
It was enjoyable to see older canal homes and understand the history and seeing the outlying area. Our guide was informative and knew her history. More guidance could have been given on the best route to meet the guide. We wasted time and money in travel.
Response from the operator: Dear James, Thank you so much for your feedback — we're really glad you enjoyed exploring Edam and Volendam on our tour! We’re sorry there was some confusion with the meeting point. We always send an email with the exact address and a geolocation link to make things easier. But we completely understand that when you're traveling, with so much happening around you, it's easy to miss a detail or two. Thanks again for sharing your experience — your feedback helps us make things even better. We’d love to welcome you back anytime! Warm regards, Anastasia

The pastoral side of the Netherlands!
A great tour — very interesting and informative. Maria was fantastic — so engaging and knowledgeable! Really nice to learn about the more relaxing and quieter side of the Netherlands as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam.
Response from the operator: Dear James, Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re really glad you got to enjoy the quieter, more peaceful side of the Netherlands — Edam and Volendam are just perfect for that. Maria loved showing you around and sends her warmest greetings. If you ever feel like escaping the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam again — we’ll be happy to welcome you back, here or in any of the other countries we explore together. Take care and see you next time! Anastasia

Adam and Volendam
We have just returned from a tour of Edam and Volendam where Sergey discovered for us a part of the Netherlands that is so different from our already beloved Amsterdam! It was such a wonderful, calm, soulful walk - not at all like a standard excursion! We saw and felt the slow and quiet rhythm of small towns, and were enchanted by the green and flowery streets, cutely decorated courtyards and delicious cafes and restaurants! The personal tour was highly professional, easy, educational, fun and even delicious!!! We will contact SNURK TRAVEL again and again for new emotions in different cities and countries!!! Response from the operator: Дорогие Ирина и Сергей, мы очень тронуты вашим отзывом! Сергей передает вам огромный привет и очень ждет встреч в будущем! :)

Genuinely lovely local guide plans pleasant day trip exploring less-traveled gems around Amsterdam
Maria was incredibly nice and easy-going during my family's 3 hour day trip around two towns outside of Amsterdam. These two communities differed significantly in traditions and Maria's discussion and engagement about each's characteristics made it really special. My family and I were pretty worn out from traveling that morning but Maria made it a great time nevertheless! Maria was accommodating and flexible to our pace and was genuine, honest, and funny as she answered our raining of random questions. I would love to go on another of Maria's trips!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! Maria sends you many greetings! We hope to see you again in the Netherlands, Morocco, Serbia, Belgium, or Hungary :)

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Amsterdam.
How much does Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam cost?
+
Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Amsterdam usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Amsterdam is not rushed.
Is Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Amsterdam, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Amsterdam can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Amsterdam and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half-Day Edam and Volendam Private Walking Tour from Amsterdam start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Amsterdam within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?
+
On Outty we rank every Amsterdam experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Amsterdam Canal Cruise with Local Guide and Small Group, Guided Bike Tour of Amsterdam's Highlights & Hidden Gems, Amsterdam: Luxury Canal Cruise including Cocktails & Snacks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Amsterdam?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
