Visit Hadrian's Wall, built in 122AD by the Romans as the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire to defend against the Picts to the north. Explore the Vindolanda Fort, built in 85AD and still being excavated to this day! It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most important Roman sites in the world. You will be amazed by the unique collection of Roman artifacts on display at the museum. Visit Bamburgh Castle, the real Last Kingdom of Bebbanburg! There is currently an exhibiton in the Castle of 'Last Kingdom' props and costumes. Alternatively, you can customise the tour by replacing Bamburgh with Alnwick Castle - used as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter hit TV series. Finally, on our way back to Edinburgh, feed the seals at the fishing town of Eyemouth in North Berwick (availability permitting).

Vindolanda
The Vindolanda Roman Fort is one of the best preserved, and most important Roman sites in the world. Archaeological excavations are still ongoing on this site, and the museum features a unique set of Roman artifacts, including a huge collection of shoes, the only Roman boxing gloves in the world, a toy sword and a toilet seat. You can also see the Vindolanda Tablets - considered by many as the most important Roman find of the 20th century, allowing a unique insight into the lives of people living at Vindolanda near Hadrian's Wall nearly 2000 years ago.

It is still one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK.

Great tour and great guide!
We had an amazing experience with Joao. He worked with us for several months and planned our tour with all of our favorites. This tour made my son’s trip and we will all remember it! Our guide so was patient and kind. What great memories!!

Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda tour with Joao E2G Tours
I can't say enough good things about this tour! When we were planning this tour our schedule was only allowing time for it on a day that we were transferring from Edinburgh to London. We were having a great deal of difficulty finding someone who would pick us up in Edinburgh, take us on the tour and then drop us off in Newcastle to board our train. Then by some miracle, we came across Joao with E2G Tours who happily agreed to our slightly unusual circumstances for the tour start and end locations. Joao reached out several days in advance to connect and confirm the tour. Then on the day of the tour, Joao arrived early to our hotel and was very helpful in getting everyone comfortable and all of our luggage into the van and off we went. He even was thoughtful and brought along waters and snacks for us since it was going to be a roughly 7 hour tour. Our tour ended up being absolutely amazing, with stops at Vindolanda (which was incredible!), Steel Rigg and a few other seemingly lesser-known, yet very accessible sections of Hadrian's Wall that happen to be located in cozy residential areas. One was Heddon-on-the-Wall. Joao was incredibly knowledgeable and a wonderful tour guide who went out of his way to make our visit to Hadrian's Wall the best it could be!
