Shopping experience
This was not a guided tour nor did it last 2 hours. There was no plantation about the tobacco or Rum just the opportunity to sample and buy. The rum was similarly priced to uk prices. Coffee another couple was give an explanation this was not extended to us the coffee was very overpriced even by uk standards. The cocoa house was the best experience there, although the chocolate was expensive approaching £7 for a bar it was very tasty. The guy there was very knowledgeable and generous with the samples. The trip was cheap only $5 each but the products were overpriced and could be purchased more cheaply elsewhere from previous experience but another trip might cost more to go on. Not the best experience of Dominican culture or hospitality
Response from the operator: The products have that value because they are organic and handmade. Those who know, appreciate it.

No-show plus no refund :(
Very disappointed. We booked this trip for today and the operator didn't show up and could not be reached via phone. The Viator rep tried to phone the operator as well, but there was no success. Yet they refuse to refund us and offer no solutions, like rebooking or alternative trips.
Response from the operator: We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. This is not the level of service we strive to provide. We understand how frustrating it is to have a booking not honored and to face difficulties reaching the operator. We take this feedback very seriously and will be reviewing our communication and booking processes to ensure this does not happen again. Please contact us directly so we can try to resolve this situation and assist you further.

Great Experience, But Pickup Issue
The Don Lucas Cigar Tour was fantastic, but I’m giving four stars because our hotel pickup never arrived when scheduled prior to my visit to the island. Luckily, our resort concierge arranged a later ride, so we still made it. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted with a cigar and a light. Yaro, our guide, walked us through the cigar-making process, explaining the different parts of the tobacco plant. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and we quickly bonded over our shared Cuban heritage and love of cigars. After exploring the humidor and gift shop, we headed to Oliver Rum for Connoisseurs, where we tasted several rums. A friend even bought an expensive bottle to share, making for a great time with fellow travelers. The tour ended at the chocolate bakery, where we sampled cocoa tea—unexpectedly delicious! The tour itself took about an 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours, much shorter than the travel time, but still worth it. Aside from the pickup issue, everything was excellent. Special thanks to Yaro for the great conversation—if we meet again, I’d love to sit down and enjoy your company over “un tabaquito y un buchito de café”. Highly recommend this experience!
Response from the operator: "Thank you so much for your detailed review! We're happy to hear that you had an amazing experience on the Don Lucas Cigar Tour, despite the initial pickup issue. We're glad that our concierge could help with the transportation, and it's fantastic to know that you enjoyed the cigar-making process, rum tasting, and the chocolate bakery. Yaro will be thrilled to hear your kind words about his knowledge and the great conversation you shared. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to have the chance to host you again in the future. Un tabaquito y un buchito de café sound like a perfect plan!"

Disrespectful and Disappointing
This was NOT a “guided” tour of the Don Lucas cigar facility. We were given a 3 minute explanation and demonstration of the cigar rolling process and handed a cigar. We were not shown the leaf selection process, the drying rooms, warehouse, blending, or aging process, storage, and packaging. Apparently - there was a concerted effort to get us from one building to another as quickly as possible. Groups were meandering around and purchasing overpriced trinkets and souvenirs almost out of pity. Several of the staff were commenting inappropriately about the guest’s appearances, while other staff members openly commented about the nationalities that they disliked. We knew this because both my wife and I are fluent in Spanish. There were 3 staff members who were notable: “Yarra”(Sp) and Tony in the Rum Bar, and the tiny woman with the big smile and warm demeanor in the jewelry shop whose name I forgot. Yarra and Tony poured tiny flights of various rums, explaining the finish and production process that created the rich flavors. Yarra also gave me a brief and informative lesson about Afro-Cuban Jazz and its origins from his native Cuba. He also likely convinced us to purchase a 5-bedroom condo in Cap Cana! If all of the staff had the same polite customer service based drive to showcase Don Lucas cigars and its associated coffee, tea, chocolate, rum, jewelry, and souvenirs like Yarra, Tony, and the beautiful smiling young lady in the jewelry shop, this place would be the only stop I’d ever make in Higuey. Another suggestion would be to ALWAYS have beef Empanadas on hand at the snack shop. We were fortunate that our tour bus driver found a remarkable empanada spot en route back to our resort.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We truly value your feedback, as it helps us identify areas for improvement. We're very sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations and that there were issues with the staff’s behavior. That’s definitely not the experience we strive to provide, and we’ll be addressing these concerns with the team to ensure future guests feel welcomed and respected. On a positive note, we're happy to hear that Yarra, Tony, and the jewelry shop staff made a great impression with their service and knowledge. They truly represent the standard of hospitality we aim for, and we'll make sure to pass along your kind words to them. Thank you also for the suggestion about the empanadas – we’ll definitely consider adding that as an option to enhance the experience for future guests! We hope you still had some enjoyable moments during your visit, and we appreciate your valuable suggestions to help us improve.

Why this scores 52
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Punta Cana.
How much does Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store cost?
+
Prices start at $3 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Punta Cana usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Punta Cana is not rushed.
Is Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Punta Cana, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Punta Cana can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Punta Cana and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Guided Tour to Don Lucas Cigars Factory and Souvenirs Store start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Punta Cana within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Punta Cana?
+
On Outty we rank every Punta Cana experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Punta Cana Zipline - 8 lines and a suspenseful hanging bridge, Punta Cana Buggy or ATV Tour with Macao Beach, Cave and Tastings, Buggy Excursion to Macau Beach and Natural Cave. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Punta Cana?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Punta Cana?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
