What you'll see and do
Colosseum
Your journey into ancient Rome begins at the Colosseum, one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. With your expert guide, you’ll learn the true history behind this extraordinary amphitheater—its political intrigues, its real gladiatorial battles, and the engineering genius that made it possible. You’ll discover what the movie Gladiator got wrong and explore how the Romans once staged full naval battles right here, flooding the arena to recreate dramatic sea combats. Your guide will also explain the daily life of gladiators, their social role, and how the Colosseum served as a powerful tool of entertainment and imperial propaganda. Visiting the Colosseum is not just seeing an ancient monument—it’s stepping into a living piece of history, where every stone reveals the power, ambition, and imagination of Rome.

Palatine Hill
Your next stop takes you back to the very beginnings of Rome. The Palatine Hill is known as the place where Romulus founded the city in 753 BC, a legendary decision that ended in tragedy for his twin brother, Remus. As you explore this ancient hill, your guide will bring these early stories to life, explaining how myth and history came together to shape the identity of Rome. Walking among the remains of imperial palaces and aristocratic residences, you’ll get a sense of how important this hill once was—not only as the mythical birthplace of the city, but as the political and residential heart of the Roman elite. From the top of the Palatine, you’ll enjoy impressive views over your next destination: the Roman Forum. Seen from above, the Forum reveals its full scale and significance as the center of political, commercial, and social life in ancient Rome.

Roman Forum
The Roman Forum, together with the Via Sacra the Sacred Way formed the vibrant heart of ancient Rome. This was the place where the entire life of the city unfolded. In this busy and crowded center, you would have found merchants negotiating prices, senators delivering public speeches, generals celebrating their triumphs, and priests performing sacred rituals for the Vestal Virgins. Every corner of the Forum tells a story about the political power, religious traditions, and everyday activities that shaped the Roman world. During your three-hour visit, you’ll walk through these remarkable ruins with an expert guide who will connect each site to the people and events that once animated it. You’ll discover how this compact area managed to influence centuries of history and how the institutions born here helped Rome endure for so long. Best of all, you’ll stay fully immersed in the ancient world without losing valuable time in long lines.

Colleseum tour
Tony was phenomenal! Extremely knowledgeable and showed us many interesting things regarding the history of the Colleseum. Ask for Tony when booking!

As described/Wish tour guide had better English accent.
The meeting point was easy to find. The tour was as described. The tour guide was friendly and informative. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because he had a very thick Italian accent that at times was difficult to understand especially with all the other noise from the other groups around us.

Why this scores 79
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome cost?
+
Prices start at $39 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 217 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome?
+
Around 76 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Guided Tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in Rome start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
