About this experience
At Manatees in Paradise, we are a small, family-owned company with a passion for wildlife & the environment! Founded in 2005 by manatee rescue volunteers focused on safeguarding the dwindling manatee population, our goal has always been to bring you the very best in educational, animal friendly tours. It has never been our ambition to have the largest fleet of boats on the water. Instead, we aim to have the smallest possible impact…which is why we only offer small tours & are proud to be 1 of 2 Guardian Guides with Save the Manatee Club! Regardless of whether you book a tour with us, we kindly ask that you respect the manatees & their space…not crowd or prey on them. Any tour company promoting the petting of wild manatees is truly part of an ongoing local problem. We love snorkeling with the manatees, but always remain mindful not to interfere with their natural behavior. You can also see them very well from the boat, so whether in the water or out, it's truly a magical adventure!

Our Trip
There are TONS of different tours listed and most have similar reviews but I appreciated that they were 1 of 2 companies listed as Guardian Guides. There should be regulations to lessen the stress and impact of these gentle sea cows vs the need to satiate human wants, call me a hippie, mother earth, whatever. We had Capt. Jake and Celeste as our swimmer. We were the only people on the tour. One in our party was very anxious because they had never snorkeled, both crew members were very supportive and went at my friends pace and were not pushy just genuinely wanted them to enjoy the experience. The summer is not the best time to go because most of the Manatees are out in the Gulf based on what the little research I did and indeed we only saw one juvenile male; that being said we actually got to swim with him up the channel as he munched on food not caring we were there. There was a Kayaker who jumped in and scared him but he was educated (hopefully) on proper etiquette for the future. The crew took the time and seemed determined for us to have at least one Manatee experience/interaction. As we toodled in search they were very conversational and educational and seemed able to adapt to the humor/style of whatever guests they might encounter - which does not always happen. However, I wish Celeste had told us at the BEGINNING that her former job was to WRASSLE GATORS! Probably she knew I would have been like tell me every story. The boat was clean, they were quipped with all the necessities, and they included pictures in the package (which came like right after the tour). They provided a lunch spot (which was ok) recommendation. And they were honest about the creatures that lived in the channels and requested honesty if people left a review so others would not be surprised. I plan to hopefully come back In Jan/Feb time frame when there are reportedly a plethora because they are all in the channel trying to stay warm. Would recommend and return for the Capt Jake/Celeste combo!

The time of the year matters for this experience.
Overall, this was a good experience but I did learn that manatee viewing is somewhat of a seasonal thing. It turns out that the best time to see the most manatees is in the cooler months of the year. We were told, on arrival, that our excursion might be a bit underwhelming because of the time of the year. Be that as it was, our guide and the boat captain did a really good job in finding one of just a handful of manatees that were believed to be in the bay. We were able to be in the water as one came to the surface a couple of times. The water was very cloudy and we were not able to see it at all once it went below the surface. We spent a good amount of time just floating in the water waiting for the few seconds that one would come up. Not a complete disappointment, but had we known in advance that this was not the ideal time, it may have changed our plans.

Great experience in the off season
We had such a great experience it was off season so the water was murky and we still saw 5 manatees. Celeste our guide and Jake our captain were knowledgeable, cared about the manatees well being and our experience. Would highly recommend!

Great manatee trip
My wife and I went snorkeling with manatees with Manatees in Paradise this week. Captain Jake and Sandy (photographer) couldn't have been more friendly, helpful, and informative. We got 39 photos and 5 videos (included in the price) the same day. When they didn't come through on the first email (probably because there were so many), Jake solved the glitch in minutes. They made us feel like their most important clients.
Response from the operator: Thanks for joining us & for the kind review!!

Wonderful Manatee Trip!
We had a wonderful time with Jake & Sandy. We swam with manatees & also got to learn about them. We also saw a ray & they took us to a beautiful secluded spring. You can tell how much Jake & Sandy enjoy what they are doing. There were some new snorkelers in our group. Sandy was great teaching them how to snorkel.
Response from the operator: Thanks for joining us & for the great review!

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Crystal River.
How much does Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!) cost?
+
Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Crystal River usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!) take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Crystal River is not rushed.
Is Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Crystal River, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!)?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Crystal River can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Crystal River and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Guided Semi-Private Snorkel Tour (w/ FREE Photos!) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Crystal River within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Crystal River?
+
Crystal River is the one place in Florida with permitted in-water manatee tours: early-morning snorkel trips into Three Sisters Springs, scalloping in summer and spring-fed kayak paddles. On Outty we rank every Crystal River experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 Hour Small Group All Inclusive Manatee Swim with free Photo pkg, Guided Small Group Manatee Snorkeling Tour with In-Water Photographer, Most Popular 3hr Manatee Swim Tour + In-Water Guide!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Crystal River?
+
November to March for manatee season, July to September for scalloping. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Crystal River?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
