⭐ Five Stars Are Not Enough!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our tour to Gubei Water Town and the Simatai Great Wall with Leo’s Private Tours was an absolute highlight. Our guide, Yoshi, was exceptionally knowledgeable and brought the history of both sites to life with fascinating stories and insights. What made the experience even more special was that he also took the time to explain Chinese characters and their meanings, helping us improve our admittedly modest Mandarin skills along the way. A special thank you also goes to our driver, Yoyo, whose kindness, warmth, and joyful personality made the entire day even more enjoyable. Gubei Water Town is a true hidden gem. It is difficult to understand why it is not as famous as many other attractions around Beijing. We were fortunate to visit on a relatively quiet day, allowing us to explore without crowds or long queues and fully appreciate its beauty and atmosphere. Walking through its picturesque streets felt like stepping directly into a Chinese historical drama. The Simatai Great Wall was equally impressive. Compared to some of the more heavily restored sections, it feels much more authentic and original. The hike is a bit more steep, but the spectacular views and unique character of the wall make it more than worthwhile. The combination of outstanding guiding, comfortable transportation, rich cultural insights, breathtaking scenery, and genuine hospitality made this an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend Leo’s Private Tours, and especially Yoshi and Yoyo, to anyone looking for a deeper and more authentic experience of China.
Response from the operator: Dear guest : Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that your Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall tour was such a highlight of your time in Beijing. It’s great to know that Yoshi was able to bring the history and culture to life, and even help you with Chinese characters along the way—he truly enjoys sharing these small cultural insights with our guests. We are also very happy to hear your kind words about our driver Yoyo. His warmth and positive energy are exactly what we hope every guest experiences during their journey. Gubei Water Town and the Simatai Great Wall are indeed special places, offering a more authentic and peaceful side of the Great Wall experience, and we are glad you were able to enjoy them without crowds. Thank you again for your strong recommendation of Leo’s Private Tours, Yoshi, and Yoyo. We truly appreciate your support and hope to welcome you back for another memorable China tour in the future.

Super friendly and helpful!
Because I was going solo, I honesty was a little nervous to meet up with the driver and go a long distance by myself, but it was all gone after I met up the driver, Mr.Ping! His wife came along, which made it more reassuring. Also, his English was fluent and was very very helpful! Even though the tour I chose doesn’t include a guide, he walked me to the ticket office, helped get the tickets, explained the Water Town map to me, and even helped me set up the Wechat haha. After I had my fun and adventure at water town and the Simatai wall (which was amazing), he was thoughtful enough to ask me if I had other plans after this, and was very kind enough to drop me off at my next destination!! I’m so glad I took the chance to come to Gubei water town!! Zero regrets! Thank you so much, Mr. Ping!! 🥹
Response from the operator: Thank you for selecting Leo’s Private Tour and for your fantastic review. We are dedicated to providing private tour services in Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Chengdu, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, and Hangzhou. While we understand that private tours may have fewer participants compared to group tours, we firmly believe that private tours offer superior experiences. Despite the potentially higher cost, we believe that a private trip is worth it. We always strive to offer high-quality private tours to ensure an exceptional experience for our guests.

Why this scores 65

Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Private Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
