About this experience

Enjoy a private and authentic gourmet Mexican meal in a local Mexico City home with your host Margarita. This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. Margarita was born in Mexico City and has lived there her entire life. She first started cooking with her grandmother who taught Margarita to make traditional Mexican dishes in their kitchen. Passionate about food and cooking, Margarita took her first cooking classes at the age of 15. She went on to work as a food stylist, publishing her recipes and beautiful pictures in several magazines. Margarita opened her own business 7 years ago, making cookies for local businesses. Co-author of a Mexican cookbook, Margarita is passionate about cooking and particularly teaching and sharing her culinary knowledge with others. She says, “If you want to understand Mexico as a country, you have to taste its flavors. I want to share the richness of Mexico and its great culture of food with others.”

An amazing cooking and cultural experience

Our cooking and market experience with Margrita was exquisite. She walked us through the market and shared details about the local culture, and then walked us through all the elements that made it to our menu. At home, she had carefully prepared everything and introduced the entire process step by step. I have learned so much about local food and cooking styles. The food was simple but fabulous - designed in a way so we can also make it at home. We had an amazing night geeking out about food and culture while having a great meal. Thank you for everything!

Margarita, a Traveling Spoon hostess, provides an awesome, authentic Mexican food experience

My wife and I had the good fortune of visiting the home of Margarita and her husband, Gonzalo, in Mexico City as part of a Traveling Spoon experience. It was so enjoyable! She is a food genius as well as an official "food stylist." Margarita made a variety of delicious food courses and explained the pertinent background details about them. I would highly recommend this if you are remotely a "foodie."

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderfull review. We are so glad you had a memorable Traveling Spoon experience and look forward to serving you again on your future travels!

Amazing experience

Our host, Margarita, was incredible. Her home is lovely; she is knowledgeable, organized, and had all 3 of us participating in many aspects of preparing our multi course meal. Started out in a local market with many stalls offering a variety of local fresh ingredients. There is not enough room to describe this amazing experience, I cannot recommend Margarita more highly.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. We are so glad you had a memorable Traveling Spoon experience and look forward to serving you again on your future travels!

Is Gourmet Home Dining Experience in Mexico City with Margarita suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Gourmet Home Dining Experience in Mexico City with Margarita?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Mexico City?

+

On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mexico City?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mexico City?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
